It would have ended if either 1) Russia decapitated Urkaine by capturing Kiev or 2) Ukraine surrendered early on while the terms were generous.
Since neither happened and NATO is determined to fight till the last Ukrainean by supplying them with military hardware, we're back to the traditional warfare where the advances don't happen for weeks and are limited to a few kilometers at best even when they do.
I want to stress once again that Russia stands to gain nothing by withdrawing and/or signing a truce at this point. There are literally no incentives to do so, only vague promises to "consider lifting some of the sanctions", key words being "consider" and "some".
Pentagon has admitted they
want to see Russia lose the battle on the territory of Ukraine. Note the wording: they do not want the war to end or for Ukraine to escape unscathed.
