General Discussion for Virtual Youtubers / Vtubers / Chuubas - it's okay to be a simp for 2D, just don't thirstpost.

So someone on /jp/ posted a summary of the recent genshin stuff with Mikeneko, and it's just screwed up.

SUMMARY
- Nanase posts a warning tweet about a crazy user also tagged with the #Mikeneko hashtag images in which they received a message from a user named "Neko" in Genshin who asked Nanase to sell their account so they can play with Mikeneko and then told Nanase to die
- Antis misinterpret this like idiots to be Mikeneko asking for people to sell their accounts
- Fans tell Nanase to not put Mikeneko in the hashtag as false rumors were being spread of Mikeneko asking to sell accounts
- Nanase posts provoking tweet(s?) at Mikeneko's fans
- Nanase then apologizes for bringing up Mikeneko in the hashtag
- People continue to tell Nanase to not put #Mikeneko because Antis are saying it's Mikeneko asking for accounts to be sold
- Nanase apologizes but says they'll only take the tweet down if its Mikeneko herself asking
- A sub account of a user named Yuki posts a tweet about how they heard from a friend that Mikeneko is telling people to sell their accounts to her and getting gifts from illegal sites
- Mikeneko quote retweets that with how even just playing a game in peace she's getting attacked
- Yuki privates their sub account (main account is still fine)
- Mikeneko quote retweets Nanase asking for Mikeneko to not be brought into this mess by the hashtag
- Nanase apologizes
- Mikeneko asks for Nanase to delete the tweet and do it once more without #Mikeneko
- Nanase deletes the tweet and does it again without #Mikeneko
- Hours later Nanase tweets they'll stop playing Genshin and apologizes
- Some other random user attacks Mikeneko for driving Nanase to stop playing Genshin
- Mikeneko says that how there were false rumors spreading about her asking people to sell their accounts without her knowing all because of that tweet, how Nanase refused to delete the tweet unless Mikeneko herself tweeted at her, so Mikeneko was the one brought into this mess entirely and only asked Nanase to stop
Who is this Nanase in the first place? A content creator? Just some random guy?

I'm surprised Nina is now the most subscribed female NJ EN VTuber especially after her two controversies that happened relatively quickly after her debut.
Mommy shit sells and tbh her controversies were a nothing burger to almost everyone besides dramafags

Her being able to act her kayfaybe well and interact with everyone else (espcially Luxiem) kinda sealed the deal

She was a good addition to the roster I must say. She turned out especially likeable by virtually everyone.
Yeah! Although Pomu & Selen are my favorites, I can't deny how charismatic Nina is and ability to get people to speak with little to no dead air. She deserves it too with helping the men in EN.

I haven’t posted in this thread for a while but I will say this…
I don’t feel there’s much interest for the newer generations for Vtubers mainly Nijisanji with EN Gen 5 and hololive with HoloX and ID Gen 3. I think we’ve reached the stalemate of Vtubing and I expect the decline to happen very soon.

I was thinking about this. I will admit that I actually didn't expect Vtubers to last and be as popular as they are now so I won't lie and say I'm good at predicting the future, however it really does feel like the golden age is waning. Vtubers will stay as a fixture in streaming for a long time to come even if just due to the community around them being so fanatic but I think the niche is nearing carrying capacity.

Nina controversies were due her roomate being close to the SJW/alfabet people, that same people places like 4chan or this forum tends to hate, even more when they try to cancel people (like in the recent calli/ddk arc). It seems like she did a Gura like in leaving her past persona and embracing one that she likes more, and one that can make better friends instead of that toxic sphere that was the SJW scene. Good for her i guess even if im not a nijiEN fan.

And what metric, pray tell, are we supposed to use to measure the success/interest of the entire vtuber industry?

This is purely due to the EN sphere oversaturating the hobby and basically making it seem like there's no interest. Back in 2018-2020 it was still a growing hobby and not everyone and their 2nd cousin wanted to be a Vtuber of some sorts. Today you can't go 20 minutes on Twitter without seeing a new Vtuber "debuting soon" or starting drama in the En community. There's definitely interest for some time to come, the pandemic buff wearing off, as predicted, will hit the EN side harder than it will JP because on the eastern side, they aren't pumping out 7 billion indies every day or virtually "sharing" a user base, e.g HoloEN and NijiEN are largely comprised of the same general base based on a lot of user crossover I've noticed. If the market didn't get absolutely flooded out I guarantee there would be way more hype for "newer generations" than it appears. Most people are still pining to get into Nijisanji or Hololive so the hobby won't really decline or hit a stalemate anytime soon globally, just the En side will continue to pump out more indies like cockroaches.

Over-saturation of the market was bound to happen at some point.
Now comes separating the wheat from the chaff.

At least on a personal level, I find myself oversaturated on who I'm subscribed to and don't see myself in a rush to find new vtubers to watch (I'd shed some subs, but I'd feel like I'm screwing over the smaller ones with how YT metrics/discoverability seem to work). I imagine a lot of people are the same at this point. I'm not in a rush to check out the next Niji or Holo wave. I don't have time to watch 50 vtubers, and the interaction and content from smaller corpo tends to be more my taste.
