I haven’t posted in this thread for a while but I will say this…
I don’t feel there’s much interest for the newer generations for Vtubers mainly Nijisanji with EN Gen 5 and hololive with HoloX and ID Gen 3. I think we’ve reached the stalemate of Vtubing and I expect the decline to happen very soon.

Oversaturation was bound to happen but the good of this is that the crash will burn the attention whores and the vtwitters at least in EN, JP and Asia will continue their marry ways, with Niji and Holo not even noticing it

I feel like it will, for the most part, be a whimper rather than a bang. More than likely you'll see en-masse graduations and companies shutting down as the reality of the business hits them. Unless you've got the magic, you got nothing.

That said, the indie scene is probably going to grow and become a mainstream entity. I fully see the drama developing at the Face-cam v. Virtual streamer level and in the end it will be big names in the former scene making asses of themselves.

At least on a personal level, I find myself oversaturated on who I'm subscribed to and don't see myself in a rush to find new vtubers to watch (I'd shed some subs, but I'd feel like I'm screwing over the smaller ones with how YT metrics/discoverability seem to work). I imagine a lot of people are the same at this point. I'm not in a rush to check out the next Niji or Holo wave. I don't have time to watch 50 vtubers, and the interaction and content from smaller corpo tends to be more my taste.

I've done the same, and subscribed to channels that I barely watch. But in my mind, I consider the sub as more of a tab or bookmark. If it helps the channel, right on, but otherwise I like checking some talents every now and again.

I was thinking about this. I will admit that I actually didn't expect Vtubers to last and be as popular as they are now so I won't lie and say I'm good at predicting the future, however it really does feel like the golden age is waning. Vtubers will stay as a fixture in streaming for a long time to come even if just due to the community around them being so fanatic but I think the niche is nearing carrying capacity.

I think the nepotism amongst Holo EN and Niji EN in particular is starting to hurt both companies. Isn't all of Holo EN 2 friends with one of the other tubas or staff? There's a point where I just wonder why they even have auditions at this point. If they just want to hire the people they know they can just audition the ten or so potential candidates privately and then announce the next gen when done. But then you run into the issue of EN2 being kinda boring and uninspiring compared to EN 1. With EN 1 Yagoo took several chances with the girls. That all paid off. With EN 2 they haven't really done anything notable because they're all just predictably good but not exceptional.

My personal half assed prediction for the decline or just plateuing of the vtuber goldrush is that we're gonna get more enjoyable shitshows like Saurei and BunnyGF (but maybe with actual consequences besides 3 days of interest and then a return to buisiness) and more company fuckups/abuse like that one South African corpo that was hiring underage women to play lewd avatars or how WACTOR sued/doxed Eileen Milky or whatever


I feel like the only way a big corpo (E.g, HL, Niji) could ever go down is that if they commit a geniune crime or major talent abuse (somehow, doubt any of those 2 are prime to do it)

Also, somewhat unrelated, but are the Sony Vtubers still going shit? last time i checked two of their main talents (i think they were supposed to be Vsingers ala IRys and Azki) had 3d models that were so shit that they prefered to use .pngs

Precisely. We won't see any big names going down, but Vtweeters and the less inspired ones are fucked. I also sub to channels I like but don't often watch, has the side effect of having my phone ring at the middle of dawn because some japanese cartoon girl is streaming in moon runes, but it doesn't bother me much. People make quite the fuzz with people that just sub because of some algorythm horseshit, but nigga there's no way you can follow every single stream or watch every single video that comes out. It's impossible, helping with sub growth is fine and dandy, you don't need to polish your fave girl's shoes and cook her breakfast to be a fan, you just need to like them and sub to them, period!

I'm surprised Nina is now the most subscribed female NJ EN VTuber especially after her two controversies that happened relatively quickly after her debut.

There's more nuance to the numbers, of course, but yeah.

Nina has been very clever in latching onto Luxiem whilst also maintaining a non-shippable personality with them that doesn't piss off any fujos, unlike, say, Reimu. She has also been gaming the algorithm with Shorts and TikTok, which Selen has also been doing recently.

As such, Nina sucks up lots of Luxiem subs, but that also means she has an uncharacteristically large number of overlap with Luxiem viewers that cause her to have comparatively lower viewer retention than her peers when Luxiem streams overlap with her. For direct comparisons with the other girls, her average viewers are typically below Selen, Enna, Pomu, and Rosemi, whilst her monthly SC donations are often lower than Pomu, Selen, and Elira.

TL;DR - sub numbers are increasing rapidly but it's not translating to live viewers and donations at a similar rate to her peers.

We desperately need to stop misusing the word 'Nepotism' here in a way that it is conflated with having connections, but even if I were to put that to one side I'm not sure how it has hurt NijiEN at all. Some of the branch's best members are the ones who knew others prior to joining.

It hasn't created cliques, either, as Rosemi was invited to off-collab with Elira, Millie and Enna, and Uki (whose connections were Elira and Shu) hung out with Pomu and Finana.

Way too many streams going on at the same time. This is why I'm leaning more towards watching NijiEN streams as you often get more people in it. If i were to say I had an oshi, it would probably be Ame and the Yabbit but it seems I'm watching less and less of them each day.
