Thanks for the laugh - I needed it, because what you're saying is pretty dead on...
However, I admit to knowing this about this guy and about his site, which is why I can only laugh so much. I can safely say I'm all but ashamed to know anything about this guy and must ask why he doesn't have a page dedicated to his sorry ass just yet (as much as I feel he needs one after seeing this vid.).

If you mean Daddy Derek, we have a thread on him. If you mean the shotgun-toting brony, he may of fallen off radar, especially since the vid is old and is probably a reupload (it is from Kyanka of Something Awful). If you mean Sethisto of Equestria Daily (who is mentioned in the shotgun video), he could get a page provided he is a lol-cow and not some brony that spergs over a cartoon. Up to date content helps with that.

Context for the video that has been posted before? Apparently some brony wields a shotgun and wishes to find the headquarters for a popular brony blog so he can (assumingly) shoot up the owner of it. He burns a forest most likely to show how he wants it all to burn to the ground. That is my guess. Alternate context is just using it as an example for Daddy Derrick in teaching gun safety when encountering a brony wielding a gun that may or may not be autistically ponified.

I was just wondering if there was something that prompted that video way back when. I want to know what incident could possibly justify shooting nothing and then burning down a forest.

At most, just a brony being stupid. Beyond that, perhaps he was member of EQD. Maybe he butted heads with someone and mods and/or Sethisto banned him. Could explain him shooting at nothing and then burning a forest to serve as an allegory to his dislike of some blog.

I don't have too many stories, just there was this one dude on MLW who had that kind of animation style as his profile picture and signature, and he would always change it up to have different poses and stuff...but always that creepy, shitty 3D. It seems to be favored among bronies, as I have seen it when perusing the 'tism on derpibooru, as well.
I think it is interesting that it appeals to them, since it is so innately ugly and malformed looking. I feel like the bronies don't really have any sense of design quality or style, so ugly shit like this really does it for them. Or something.
The fashionista and design sperg in me is greatly pained by such hideous animation....

Yeah, it's SFM. I've tried using it before, then quit because I couldn't get it to work right. I have no intention to continue using it either.
As for the models, I don't think anyone who made those models seemed to realize that these cannot translate into CGI. They're already ugly as it is in several scenes of the show. Why make them even more disgusting to look at?

Bronies have been using those 3d models for years. They have one of like every pony in the show, the Griffon character and they even made some for popular fan characters (usually of "famous" bronies such as that guy who made the song about ponies killing each other and that other guy who makes the FNAF songs)
And the autism doesn't stop there, people recolor the models and make their own shitty fan characters using the assets from the previous models
The more I look at a g4 pony the more I realize it really only looks good in profile view because they're so bizzarely shaped and when they're in toy and 3d model form they look freaky as shit
Like turn the toy's head towards you and you're like "ew gross turn it back it has a giant forehead"

Somehow, I feel these pony 3D models can get creepier if they ever used them for more creepier reasons with G-Mod or SFM. Also, those brony TF2 servers may as well be full of cringe.
Considering they've been using these models since God knows when (2011 at most), one would wonder why not even bother making some improved version that looks less creepy. Then again, one trying to make these things would show how much they still look creepy.

To my horror, I discovered today that horsefucking convention has invaded my ancestral homeland. I imagine this was how my parents felt when animu invaded the island during the '60s and '70s.
