I thought that MLP show had only recently been dubbed into Japanese by Hasbro and the Chinese language localization was still far down the line, but alas, Hasbro has their shit together and the Chinese language version of MLP has been circulating for a few years now. Honestly I shouldn't be too surprised. Taiwanese people have a weakness for the "kawaii" animu aesthetic, and MLP very easily taps into that. In the '90s the Beanie Baby craze was pretty big over there for similar reasons I guess, and MLP gives my compatriots the additional opportunity to indulge in the national past-time of cosplaying and making animu-style art.

To my horror, I discovered today that horsefucking convention has invaded my ancestral homeland. I imagine this was how my parents felt when animu invaded the island during the '60s and '70s.

Considering bronies and worldwide, there was mention of a survey taken from a pornsite. Said pornsite had MLP searches coming mostly from Eastern Europe. Also, bronies or furries, it's all an autistic plague.

Unfortunately if they weren't sperging over MLP, they would probably be sperging over some other Japanese hentai cartoon. I remember last time I went back there, "One Piece" manga/aniem was the big fad. Trendy seafood restaurants all had "One Piece" pirate decor and utensils, every merchandise in convenience stores had "One Piece" logos or characters printed on it. Even the research lab I was working at had "One Piece" themed skull-and-crossbones labels pasted on toxic gas tanks.

But at this point, I think MLP is still very niche over there, no where near as big as the big budget anime franchises that get mainstream followings and conventions and cosplayers. They only have the one modestly sized, one-day MLP convention, not like in North America and Europe where they have many big conventions lasting several days in many different cities. But the seed has been sown, and MLP can definitely expand there. I don't watch Japanese animes, but I think the English language MLP show compares favorably and I can definitely see it gaining traction there if the Chinese localization is of the same quality.
