I’m playing through Far Cry 6 and there’s a ftm character that is…portrayed almost to parody. I’m not even through that part of the story yet and they’ve already mentioned being trans 3 times, talked about top surgery, and just whine constantly. I shit you not, there’s a war going on and that character cried about MEMEME and said they’d have to “fight” to live on the fictional island after the war due to bEiNg TrAnS. It’s such a lame attempt at representation and if I was ftm I’d be offended by the portrayal, not flattered. Pretty funny to see such a lame, and sadly accurate, attempt to be inclusive.

Occasionly it isn't even clear whether a troon is AGP or HSTS, and the line keeps getting blurrier with AGPs transitioning younger and younger. You could make equally valid arguments for Gigi Gorgeous, Kat Blaque, and Hunter Schafer being HSTS or AGP. Personally, I believe all three are AGP. And I personally don't believe HSTSs are any less threatening than AGPs. They're just as entitled, misogynistic, and sex-obsessed in their own way. And they can be just as predatory and violent. The scene pictured below from Tangerine (2015), a fictional but accurate depiction of the lives of two HSTS prostitutes, is representative of this. It's either you accept troonery or outright reject it. There's really no middle ground. You can't go making exceptions for the "good" or gay ones. Yeah, I've been pondering on this, and you're right. There's a social dynamic to troonery that you really have to consider too. Maybe you could explain earlier troonery in the 60s and 70s as a product of social marginalization, ie. a desire to conform to a normal narrative of sexuality and gender expression for effeminate gay men, to reenter the mainstream so to speak. But you can just be an effeminate gay man now. It doesn't explain why half the cast of the new seasons of drag race have suddenly decided that taking hormones will somehow aid them on their journey to their "authentic selves". In the same way that you can't really map something like the Hirja in India onto modern troonery, the modern HSTS troon is really not the same as someone transitioning in the 60s. There's definitely a big component of narc attention-seeking in it.

I used to think that when they yelled about how gender-critical people “want to erase us” and “want us dead” they were just being hysterical to get attention (and I’m sure they sometimes are) but now I’m convinced that a rejection of gender identity does feel like death to some of them.

Like gender has swallowed so much of their sense of self that there’s nothing else left, so if you don’t believe in or acknowledge gender, to them it’s like most of them just disappears

Yes. if your gender is your only identity (i.e a woman is who you are as opposed to what you are) then someone not seeing you as your preferred gender identity can feel like "death" and erasure in a(n overly dramatic) sense. I also hate the term "gender identity" because of this.

These people are so shallow that their gender is who they are and because they have nothing else going for them, every single part of their life needs to be about gender. So if you, as a normal person, don't agree with this, or see a little loud girl instead of the burly masculine man he is, you are, in fact, erasing them and their entire existence. But this is probably more suited for the other thread.
