My personal theory on this is that people who are extremists are more addicted to the rush of being extreme and pissing people off than any particular ideology, so if they abandon an ideology like last season's fashion, they're more likely to become an extremist on the opposite side of the issue. Then they get the love bombing extremists do, as a welcome convert, because these cult-like ideologies love nothing more than to save a sinner, whatever they might say.

They do remember the turncoat is a turncoat, though, and will be even more vicious if they ever go apostate again. People like this eventually get ostracized from any group they join if they keep doing this, so if they convert, they might be motivated to stay that way to the death.

The really sad cases are the ones who flip-flop back and forth over and over and wonder why nobody trusts them. After all, they're totally sincere about being white nationalists now, just like they were totally sincere when they were tankies!

I suppose dying in horrific agony for your principles is better than dying in horrific agony from some sort of freak accident, but CRP had the self preservation instincts of a lemming. Even if he was dead set on staying in Ukraine and continuing to say the shit he was saying, he could have gotten his family out of the country and taken some basic steps to conceal his own location. But then again, having basic common sense isn't the sort of thing that gets you a kiwi farms thread.

I think it goes the other way too as I noticed this about myself watching what I'd call 'outrage porn', say the type of shit you see on libsoftiktok, it can have you thinking that everyone else on the other side is like this yet for some reason you keep going back and watching more of it, not healthy at all.

Free speech is good, torture is bad, but CRP being turned into a pile of raspberry jam from a Russian missile is pretty funny.

On the bright side, his kids don't have to grow up listening to his drivel. They have been given a real shot at a normal life (whatever that is in Ukraine).

The former group should consider volunteering for Ukraine after they finish dilating. If they're that dead set on picking a side, they might as well see it through to the end. As for the latter, I'm not sure if Russia is taking foreign volunteers and I'm pretty sure the glowies would fuck with anyone who did want to volunteer.

You know the most realistic story on this is less exciting than Azov or SBU or whomst ever deliberately seeking him out. I'd wager a guess he was more likely to simply come across armed men who spoke to him in a language he didn't understand, and who killed him when he replied in a language that wasn't theirs. Pretty much universally if somebody approaches a checkpoint or LP/OP or whatever somebody will call out a challenge and if the unknown person doesn't reply correctly they will have a bad time. I'm guessing right now the SOP for both sides leans a little heavier towards "better safe than sorry."
