How do I get him to stop? I'm really worried.

Solution
Each night, when he goes to sleep, sneak into the tunnel and move some of the dirt from the right wall to the left so it curves slightly rightward. When the tunnel eventually meets itself, tell him he managed to tunnel all the way around the world and he's done now.
Let him dig in your tunnel a few times a week (maybe twice on Saturday). That should stop him digging in his tunnel.
For real though leave him alone. If digging a hole makes him happy let him dig his hole. Women hate how little it takes for men to be happy.

Tinfoil hat: he’s looking for something specific and has a reason for not telling his partner what it is.

There are worse ways to spend free time, let the man dig.

Have you heard of the Oak Island Money Pit? Some flooded hole on an island in Nova Scotia that may or may not contain loads of loot and artifacts. Maybe he wants to make his own Money Pit to hoard immeasurable treasures or arcane relics. Perhaps he just wants to passively troll people in the future as they dump money into finding what ever reason the pit was dug.

Fun fact, according to law as I understand it:

That means theoretically so long as you stayed within property lines you could create an entire underground palace for yourself and haters could go fuck themselves if they didn't like it. No room for your kids? Just dig on downwards and put your least favorite children down there. Once they get older they'll appreciate the allegorical significance of them rising in the living space you've created as they rise through your approval.

Plus I'll bet this guy probably has no friends because his girl whines whenever he goes out drinking without her. Good on him for making if clear that if she forced the issue, he'd choose mother earth's embrace over hers.

For $150 a day, they agreed to hollow out tunnels and sleep in the bunker. The living quarters included a shower, fridge, microwave, Internet, video games and a Home Depot bucket for a toilet.
