They should be paying the homeowners back for completely fucking up rather than getting paid. I have never seen a drywall job this poorly done and they haven't even taped (HA HA they won't) or mudded yet.

Okay, I'm a new homeowner, so I'm trying to learn more about home construction. I get that there shouldn't be any gaps, but why? Whats the worst that can happen if there are gaps in the drywall. Please explain it like I'm a preschooler.

Im not a pro, but the smaller the gaps the easier and quicker it is to mud. Also using the small offcuts isn't time efficient and could even not be attached properly if they miss studs and noggins.

The last finished job they did was horrible, the sheet seams were very visible after sanding and they didn't even use tape on the joints.

I assume this job will be finished just as poorly.

@Bob_ already mentioned mudding, plus if the previous greenboard was there for a reason - that being insulation - all that humidity's going to ruin everything even faster. That's bad, even if you manage to ignore the missus with her nagging about general aesthetics and whatnot. The most basic drywall sheet which they probably bought and installed is essentially gypsum mixed with fiber, covered in paper. Even if that was waterproof the exposed material on the sides is an ingress point for humidity if they don't mud it properly to fill up the gaps. Considering Phil had no mudding knife when they started this job, I can't see them not fucking everything up.

I reckon it could be spun in either way with extra footage, building a tale of "everything looked fine and dandy but there were cracks forming in the background", basically accusing one side of lying and opportunism. Whether that's "Bonnie moved in with her new boygirlfriend to support and heal "him", left Tran Ranch to Phil who ruined it all in her absence" or "Mantits Mandozer left his husband and managing partner to fuck a BPD whore and returned to forcefully occupy what was being dutifully managed in his absence" might depend on who's willing to pay more.
