Star Wars Griefing Thread (SPOILERS) - Safety off

This is coming from someone who's first Star Wars was "The Return of the Jedi" and during that in the first 10 minutes, we had Darth Vader docking on the Death Star and C3PO and R2 being uses as negotiation pieces for Jabba the Hutt to secure Han's release by Luke. The major point of the blockade was to find a peaceful solution so the Republic sent the Jedi, the "Keepers of the Peace, not Soldiers". But Sidious like a Sith didn't want that. During the time on the Droid space station, after the assasination attempt, Qui Gon and Obi Wan went straight to work.

Counter point: that was the 3rd movie of the OT, so you knew (or should know) who the characters were and had investment. TPM you just have "jedi".

You can understand that Sidious wants to start things, etc. But its never covered WHY they were blockading Naboo or why an invasion would be made legal, just that the Trade Federation is greedy in the crawl. We never even actually saw them be greedy on screen.

"Florida Republicans voted to curtail corporate freedom and subject them to government oversight. Here's why that's a bad thing"

You nailed it. The Prequels get shit on a lot, but you can't deny the effort Lucas and company put into the action scenes. Even if you hate the pacing, acting, and story of TPM you're just lying if you say Duel of the Fates isn't well done and hella entertaining. (I'd go so far as to say it's one of Hollywood's best swordfights.)

Its not just good, but I'm telling you - for all the overhype, even having known it was coming, Maul busting out the dual saber was an "Oh shit he did WHAT?" moment.

By the way, I like the Battle of Scariff as much as the next guy but can we seriously stop pretending Rogue One is a good movie just because it has great cinematography and production design? The writing is absolute junk, being pretty looking and full of obnoxious fanservice doesn't fix that. It only got by on sheer novelty for being the second Star Wars flick in a decade, just like The Force Awakens.

Of the turd that is Disney Star Wars, Rogue One is by far the cleanest end. That's it. Its not good, its good by comparison.

I still would love to see Fennec's origin story. The Mando episode with Bruce Lee's daughter was great too. More of that. Especially since Lucas was very heavily inspired by Asian films and people like Toshiro Mifune. I know Ming Na has mentioned she wants to see her background as well. Imagine Tony Leung or someone playing her dad. Maybe she's related to Donnie Yen's character. TBOBF underutilized her.

Not sure this was ever posted many pages ago, but I figured I'd post this blast from the past. I remember seeing this a year or two after ROTS came out and laughing so hard. Still makes me laugh.
This makes me nostalgic for the days of Star Wars fan parodies before Disney put a stop to that so they could start parodying Star Wars themselves, terribly. Now everybody takes everything too personally and most people don't have a sense of humor anymore on top of Disney doing everything short of outright saying they hate the fans.

Was thinking of replaying Kotor 2 at some point in the near future when I'm done with other stuff. It's funny how in these games the harder fights are always at the beginning because your character hasn't become broken yet. If Dantooine is your first planet and you go Dark Side, you better be prepared to fight like a total bitch against Vrook and use every cheap tactic possible. He's tough even on the easy difficulty, especially if you don't have your lightsaber yet or built your character a certain way. Besides that the hardest battle in the game is the mercenary camp on the surface of Telos.

"let the past die kill it if you have to. "

It's funny how for as bad as last Jedi is, I mean worst star wars out of them all even taking the prequels and the friggin holiday special into account.

It actually managed to have one line that manages to be more relevant as time goes by. Let the past die...yeah that's the problem with star wars. On both sides of the argument. The fandom menace won't let the past die they're still stuck living in it, but neither will Disney or lucasarts.

Yeah I was waiting for Fennec's backstory in Book and it just never came. That show really needed a second pass before they started writing scripts.

I don't give a shit about Fennec, but I do like Ming Na Wen and she deserves to play a decent character in a good Star Wars project. I'm still pissed the only Disney approved Asian characters in SW are her and that cunt Rose Taco.

The thing is that nobody making TLJ actually believed this line at all. Rian shat all over TFA and the OT sure, but the entirety of TLJ is a lazy rehash of ESB and ROTJ filled with references to the OT. Jake only jumps into action after R2 plays the clip of Leia from ANH.

That's not to mention that it's even more ironic that the guy saying "let the past die" is the jackass who was inexplicably obsessed with Darth Vader, AKA the past, and being just like him. I still don't get how he suddenly switched from being a Vader fanboy to saying "fuck the past" in about a week.

The creator of the IP was inspired by Japanese film, so of course they cram it full of Chinese. Same thing, right?

Allies!

Yes I'm just saying there's an irony to such a meaningful line that really could use some application in the real world being in a film that nobody involved with had any mind to actually believe in, and by a character who was previously obsessed with living in the past.

In better hands, and if this had been a believable character arc for kylo where he actually DOES learn to not live in the shadow of the past it could have worked.

Could have...

You forgot her QT sister who died like a bitch.

They killed the wrong one. But all look same so its not like Disney is to blame.

You gotta love how TLJ boosted the presence of Asian actors in order to better appeal to Chinese audiences, and not only does the film bomb there harder than the last one, but the chief complaint from audiences was:

"Why didn't they cast anyone attractive to be in this movie?"

Fucking ouch.
Roland Emmerich has a better understanding of casting Chinese actresses than the MCU/Star Wars.

Chinese culture (at least when it comes to cinema) is really basic when it comes down to it. They want good looking (often white) actors, lots of explosions and good special effects. Star Wars got 2/3 right but dropped the ball on the first one.

Well yeah, because Disney tried to appeal to Chinese people by casting a Vietnamese actress. They literally pulled a "them gooks look all the fuckin' same" moment there and forgot how they don't to each other. Did a just as embarrassing version in Mulan too with the architecture.
Can be forgiven if she was hot. She was not.

The funniest thing? She has the ability to be attractive, but Disney and Johnson rejected the idea and the original take of the casino planet scenes. They had a whole scene of cleaning her up that they cut to keep her as frumpy looking as humanly possible.
