Little extra info for context: Compiling a binary of anything from source code should not be THAT computationally demanding. Unless you have no damn clue what the hell you are doing, you're simply creating an executable frontend to launch the code (this is largely based off what I know of Windows compilers, though Mac should not be too different), and that should not be a hard exercise for even a middling PC so long as it can compile source code.
LAUNCHING the program might be a different story, so I have no idea why a laptop can't compile code worth a damn.
Also, given this is a port of an iOS game, I really don't think testing it on a reasonably modern laptop would be too hard, since Wu is a technophile and every laptop released in the last five years could at least boot up R60, assuming the programming code isn't a dog's breakfast for it to handle.
