I am honestly tired of these stupid cunts. You casually admitting that males are the only ones that are equal to each other in a relationship while saying women are undervalued and underrepresented in fiction is fucking great, honestly. How progressive. When AO3's own data shows that female representation in fics is worse there than there is in Hollywood says a million.
But this is the original sin of fanfiction (and why I despise it): fandoms build off what's already there, and inequalities get amplified. (Suppose you're betting on coin flips but the coin is biased and lands on heads 60% of the time - you won't be calling heads 60% of the time, you'll be calling heads
100% of the time.) Look at Marvel capeshit, nothing exemplifies mass market cultural appeal as much as Marvel capeshit. There's one woman in the main lineup, who has no superpowers and is 100% defined by her cunt and what she does with it. Aren't most (all?) villains male, too? And before Marvel, there was Harry Potter, written from the point of view of a whiny boring boy (and I can't really blame "JK" Rowling for that).
The solution to the problem of female underrepresentation does not and cannot lie with fanfiction. It is to write more and better original female characters in popular media, which is not something horny girls have a say in. Historically, women and girls found an outlet for their horniness in romance novels (now joined by isekai villainess webtoons); the genres may be big, but none of the individual works can compete with popular multimedia in terms of community size. And better multimedia can only happen organically; any attempt to force it results in teenage lesbians pedo fodder and wine aunt trash.
(I sperg about this here because many, many aidens blame the lack of strong female characters in media that lends itself to fandom for their ROGD.)
