Won't do a ton for the midterms, I don't think. When Independents are breaking against Biden almost to the same degree as Republicans, mean tweets aren't going to put too much of a dent in the anti-Democrat sentiment created by all the real world problems.
It might increase his odds of losing the 2024 primary though.

Trump’s Twitter is an overrated factor. If they didn’t attack him for his tweets they would have just attacked him for a bunch of other things, and maybe their critiques would have seemed more substantive. I don’t buy the “Trump twitter antics hurt his optics a ton” argument because without Twitter he would have just been evaluated more on public statements and fake shit and policy distortions

France has a completely different electoral system than the U.S. and a very different geographic breakdown. Comparing the entire US to France elections is completely disengenuous because the electoral college exists. You can probably compare France to New York state, with one huge city, smaller cities and hollowed out rural population, aka a sucker for left wing candidates to win with little resistance. Each state is very different to that, which matters because the electoral college exists.

And that's without going into the candidates. Le Pen never got within 10 points of winning the popular vote, even with this extremely more favorable environment to her than her other 3 runs. On the other side, Trump won "once" by a slim margin the first time, "lost" by 40000 votes across 3 states in one of the worst political incumbant environments in American history, with megacorporation billionaires, the entire media, and at least 50% of his own party against him, and still had the national popular vote within 5. And that was with Biden having a overall positive approval due to constant hiding and corporate media fellatio.

Now, Biden is less popular than Trump at the during their respective presidencies timeframes WITH these advantages and Trump's approval has hit an all time high today with constant media hitpeices to this day. Trump is now the most popular national politician in the country.

It isn't anywhere near the same.

I think a lot of people think of controlled opposition as a narrower term than it is. They hear it and think "uniparty", or more longform they think "One side actively working with the other". And while this is a form of controlled opposition it is not the only form. Generally you have two other forms. Zemmour came out late in the race and managed to snag fourth place in the first round of voting despite massive handicaps.

I don't know much about EU electoral politics (and I'm skeptical anybody else here does who isn't a europoor) but this is exactly why OR and WA are consistently blue. It's not just the population centers being commies, because that voting bloc should be easy to split and/or keep home from the polls.

OR in particular is interesting to observe because the money that props up unelectable candidates (I disagree that LePen is theoretically viable, you do'nt do this with theoretically viable candidates because grassroots support can sweep them in) is coming from a very small group of high profile sources, in particular Phil Knight. But despite the fact that any fucking moron can see the pattern, it happens over and over.

The upcoming OR gubernatorial race is going to be depressing.

This is what the MAGA crowd actually believes.

The 2020 steal might be one of the biggest phyrrhic victories in the history of American politics. I can't imagine anybody who has done more damage to the electability of the Democratic Party than Joe Biden. The Dems can't successfully blame the Republicans for all the hardships the country is going through because they have the White House and both chambers of Congress. Since Biden took office gases prices have skyrocketed, inflation is wiping out peoples' saving, illegal immigration is about to hit levels once thought inconceivable, and the administration has thrown their lot in with child groomers in a war against parents for who should have control over their kids. I doesn't help that Biden looks like he's going to put his other foot in the grave pretty soon. His replacement in Harris is just as inept and unlikable as Joe, but without the excuse of having her brain liquefying in real time. If Trump won in 2020, they could safely shriek about how he is Hitler 2.0 and is mere moments away from turning the United States in to a smoldering ash heap. Instead, Biden was installed and they revealed their true colors on various policies to a lot of people. The direct result of those polices is that the life of the average American is demonstrably worse now than it was under Trump, and people are going to hammer them for it come November.

Except they have. Repeatedly. Every chance they get. And continue to do so. When they aren’t dodging the questions.

Nobody with any serious look thought the Afghan situation wold bring it all down. What it, and every other major crisis, has done is incrementally but significantly damaged both the administration and the Democrats in general.

That’s only an issue if one sees it as an issue. The Democrats are actively humming along and are perfectly fine with how things are doing because to them they have all the support they need and all they gotta do is purge the evil ones.
