Jim Sterling / James "Stephanie" Sterling / James Stanton/Sexton & in memoriam TotalBiscuit (John Bain) - One Gaming Lolcow Thread

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
I’ve heard of a lot of people going private to get a diagnoses and then back to NHS just to skip the backlog.
Hell that's all my work medical insurance covers. GP visits and diagnostic tests. After that it's back to the NHS to get treated. That's what all cheap medical insurance policies cover, if you want the full private everything package it gets expensive (still a fuck ton cheaper than 'murican policy proces though).

I actually made it a whole 10 minutes into today's Jimquisition because it was about video games, so here's my QRD:
  • Unfunny opening irl skit where Jim looks absolutely awful.
  • Unfunny animated Sonic skit where Sonic says creepy shit about masturbation.
  • Jim moans for 10 minutes straight about stupid pre-order bonuses on a ROM collection literally nobody cares about.
  • Jim thinks Sonic Lost Worlds was actually okay. For once I agree with him.
In conclusion, this is probably the best JQ in months and it was fucking terrible. I secretly suspect the only reason he covered it was because the Sonic fanbase is notoriously autistic so it might help his views.

Watched the Cybershell video on that. And I knew Jim was gonna get his shit twisted about that weird preorder shit.

I'd never even heard of Sonic Origins before. Even if these were the greatest remasters of all time, I cannot emphasise how uninterested I am in Sega's latest shilling of the same handful of 30-year-old games.

I think the reason he did this wasn't some smart move to get views from Sonic autists but because its a super low hanging fruit he can use to shit out a video.

As a Sonic autist, if you couldn't tell from me watching Cybershell in 2022. Sonic Origins is fucking exciting as its the big remastered versions that have mostly been stuck on iOS for like a decade. And 3 is finally getting that treatment.

But, for everyone else, its pretty much nothing and I have no idea why Jim cares. He is butting his nose into circles where no one wants him.

Its a wider video game community thing. The IGN podcasts are all talking about it too. Well, maybe not the Xbox one, I couldn't stomach to watch it.

If you don't mind explaining, what exactly has been remastered? Because to my untrained eye they look like the exact same games I played as a kid.

The only thing I know Sega have consistently fucked up in their previous emulation efforts was the sounds (particularly on those god-awful AtGames compilations) and I don't really see how much you can 'remaster' 16-bit games without doing the awful shit Square Enix loves to butcher their sprite art.

From the Steam page it would appear higher definition on the sprites and a few new levels with unlockables:
Classic Re-defined
Explore the classic Sonic titles in high-resolution, with all-new opening and ending animations for each title!

New Unlockables
Complete various missions to collect coins to unlock new content, challenges, and Special Stages through the Museum.

Classic and Anniversary Mode
Choose to Spin Dash your way through the numerous zones in Classic mode with the game's original resolution and limited lives, or the new Anniversary mode with unlimited lives and revamped fullscreen resolution.

Edit to add: After looking at videos of the difference, it's not a higher resolution, it just supports widescreen monitors so you can see more of the level on-screen at a time rather than having it in 4:3 ratio.

Jim cares cause it is a easy target of mockery since it has a bunch of preorder stuff attached to it that will be bundled up in a GOLD or Game of the Year edition 6 months down the line. Looking at the Chart, all of the extra stuff is cosmetic like extra animations and music, so getting your panties in a twist over this comes off as early 2010s tier journalism. I thought that we have come to terms with games being shipped uncompleted, and that the only real time to buy a game is 6 months to 2 years after once the game has been considered "Content Complete" and the developers are moving onto their next project. It's just bitching about stuff that really doesn't matter, but people like Jim want another reason to call out how Capitalism has failed and now they can point at a childhood memory and call it evil.

New levels, bug fixes. Knuckles is in all three games, not CD weirdly, and they are widescreen now. Also, adding Spin Dash to Sonic 1, and its believed that drop dash is coming to all games. Not to mention bug fixes. As well as Sonic 2 probably letting Tails fly on command

I'm in the Jim Sterling thread where we constantly comment on what Jim is wearing.
After the time he wore bondage ropes out in public there is virtually nothing he could wear that would surprise me any more.

Well, unless he wore a suit again, or maybe a plaid shirt and jeans...just dressed like a normal man his age, really.

To better explain about this collection, a dude named Christian Whitehead who would later go on to make Sonic Mania decided that he wanted a definitive version of Sonic CD. That means both English and Japanese soundtracks, high-res anime cutscenes, instant load times, no slowdown, and widescreen. In order to pull this off he had to reverse engineer the games and rebuild them from the ground up. He succeeded and this version of Sonic CD is widely praised. He later went on to give the rest of the Genesis Sonic series this treatment from my understanding and now they're putting this on modern consoles with a couple bonus features like new animated cutscenes and new stages and stuff. The collection ALSO contains regular emulated versions of the games too.

However someone at SEGA needs to be fucking fired because that chart makes the situation look exponentially worse than it actually is. SEGA later updated the chart but it's still awful. All it really says is "If you preorder you get 100 Bonus Coins and Mirror Mode unlocked from the start" and "We'll be selling Hard Mode missions and extra music at a later date which is included in the Premium Edition". But they cocked it up by making it LOOK like there's a million slightly varied versions when there isn't.

It's like someone at SEGA saw Ubisoft game sales and thought "AH! I guess those preorder charts must have helped with sales! We need to make one just like that!".

I just can't believe how he always manages to wear the most unflattering clothes possible - I couldn't work out if they are leggings on wrinkly legs or "loose" trousers on legs so obese that it causes them to stretch like leggings yet wrinkle like trousers.

It's always good to be reminded Jim is not only a massive cunt but also incredibly bad at his job.

Nothing in the JQ conveyed this is what Sonic Origins is, he makes it out to be just another ROM collection with slightly nicer graphics and some ancillary bullshit to justify pre-order bonuses.
