The issue is that Tom doesn't actually have anything wrong with him; in fact — and I know this is possibly the most controversial thing I've said in this subforum — I'd even go so far as to suggest he's a bit smarter than average. Even the weird shit he does with the alliterative insults towards the idiotic indolent infants and maliciously moronic manchildren online demonstrates an above average vocabulary.
I for one do believe that Tom has some sort of schizotypal disorder, but it is in no way severe enough to impair his short-term thinking or cognitive reasoning. I also think his vocabulary isn't as big as he'd like us to believe; he misuses words all the time, and then uses post-hoc justifications to argue that he didn't actually misused them. Tom probably is slightly smarter than average, but that only fuels his ego, and because he refuses to have meaningful dialogue with anyone smarter than him who might call him on his bullshit, his poisonous ego has metastasized.
I think he might once have been reasonably smart, but literally everything he says and does is so dumb that I just don’t think it’s possible to say that still applies. Even when you get him on to a subject where you would expect him to be reasonably knowledgeable, he’s easy to trip up. Like, not knowing basic facts about the gem trade.
