I tried watching this once. It gets lauded as some classic or influential cinema, but apart from a few long pans of night time malaise era NYC, the movie is B movie shit with some absolutely disgusting pedophilia thrown in. The dialog is on par or worse with netflix originals.

Yeah, I can buy that take. Actual, acute perversion is certainly possible, but when I say they're 'let into the club' I mean to plot the more everyday kinda of evil deeds, run-of-the-mill corruption and power consolidation for the sake of enriching themselves and investors.

Plus, there's also the possibility that there's an intentional joke quality to it. They do control the world, just not as directly as conspiracies claim. It's entirely possible that they get a sick laugh from getting together and putting on a pretend ritual wherein they control the world. There's similar theories about other secret societies like Skull and Bones. The 'conspiracy' is entirely public where it mostly boils down to having just a very powerful social network but they also do 'rituals' so isolate themselves further.

The population have been cajoled into thinking that this is a problem of communism versus capitalism, when actually, it's a problem of psychopathic neoliberalism versus everyone else.
