Agreed, it would be hilarious if they'd make it a condition that in order to receive a checkmark you lose your ability to limit replies to your posts. Ideally you could still block people's accounts so that you yourself wouldn't see it, but if you're a verified public figure, people have to have the ability to comment on it and tell you how dumb you are.

Well, that's the thing: I don't want to see pictures of some dude shoving a razorblade up his urethra, but I don't have any problem with OTHER people seeing it.

That's why I think the best (probably unrealistic) scenario is the way things used to be: a plethora of different places where people communicate online. Then rules can be made on the local level instead of coming from corporate overlords and people can find a place fits them.

I think it wouldn't be too hard to strike the balance. Take permabans off the table completely for anything not illegal, and only add exceptions when some psycho figures out how to justify a perma, that's one good way to neuter the jannies disproportionate power. Also limits to suspension length.

The "random porno" concern is probably the biggest mass appeal concern that isn't astroturfed by faggots who think hate speech is real at this point.

My only concern is that if Elon hires "experts" to help he's going to end up with a sea of the exact faggots he's tired of hearing from which caused him to buy it in the first place.

This encourages conservatives to join in the short term to harvest NPC salt but it lays the foundation of twitter addiction so twitter can experiment with ways to control conservative brains like they currently control liberal brains to more definitively swing elections.

Steven Pinker exclusively tweets with the 'only people I follow can reply' mode because a bunch of moronic lefties came after him for not toeing the line on every single leftist position in summer 2020. I don't get the take where people think conservatives will suddenly drove to twitter after the last decade of utter rot. It's funny to look and laugh at the insanity on twitter but most conservatives don't actually want to partake in this community with these fucking people, even if it was truly uncensored. The end effect is the Tucker Carlson/Donald Trump/Babylon Bee "trolls" seem to be returning to twitter. If they can learn to control the right-leaning programming as effectively as they control left-leaning programming, it won't matter if most normies don't use twitter, they'll be fed corporate-approved cultural zeitgeist from those that do.
