Creative works you enjoyed until politics happened - "How politics made me hate Welcome to Nightvale and other things"

New one to add. ThorHighHeels.

He's a YouTuber that used to review weird games. His recent videos have had the occational comment about sexism, but nothing too offencive.

His latest video was about weird PS3 games, and I gave up 30 minutes in to a 2 hour video because it feels like about a third if not more is complaining about sexism, complaining about gamer bros. The thing that made me stop watching was a jab at gamergate era Review Tech USA. If the video wasn't a few days old, I'd have sworn it was released in late 2014-early 2015.

Was Black Mirror always woke? I ask because I liked the guy that made Black Mirror (Charlie Brooker) back when he did his Wipe series (Screen Wipe, Games Wipe, News Wipe). Then he started going woke and went full TDS for the final episode of Wipe.

Over that time he also developed a hate boner for tech, but insisted on being a junkie to it. I never bothered with Black Mirror because I assumed that every episode would be "phone bad" "social media bad" "masses bad".

I'm not concerned about GW because they have never listened to their fans, and their fans have always been complaining. Someone on the farms (I forgot who, but you know who you are) made a great point that GW goes where ever the market takes them. The game started off as comedy, and went grimdark when that was popular.

You're so right about this. I used to be a big fan of ThorHighHeels. You'd always end up seeing stuff that never got referenced anywhere else and it was a breath of fresh air in the gaming youtube sphere but he's gone extremely leftist wokey talking points in the last year and it seems like it makes an appearance in almost every video nowadays and it's just really fucking strange and out of the blue.

Similar thing with Stop Skeletons From Fighting. I never saw anyone else talking about IllBleed and such and over the years, the quality has just gone to shit tbh. Just yesterday, Derek was bitching about the Rittenhouse verdict on his Twitter and im just like, holy shit video game man, how about talking about weird video games instead?

The Trump presidency really did ruin everything. Just not everything they thought he would.

I noticed ThorHighHeels doing that too, it wasn't the only thing that made me stop watching him. His ultra-postmodern style got tiring after a while - he's the type to unironically use -ussy as a suffix. And the fucking swearing, like, holy fuck, my God, dat cringe was shit. Nigga wouldn't fucking stop you vibe me motherfuckas. Shit did be funni sumtimes doe. Because he talks like that I could've sworn he was black or Hispanic, but he's a white American who moved to Britain at a young age.

The Golden Bolt is a similar example. He has a standard "white nerd" style but he too can't quit mentioning lefty politics. This started some point after his Pokémon Mini video (which I recommend). He acted like a guerrilla advertisement for the PSP Go purposefully designed to offend was ontologically evil, and said the same about sexualizing fictional women in his Parasite Eve retrospective. In the latter he also mentioned Current Bad Thing which was the pandemic at the time. That's often a sign of incoming trash politics and/or a fundraiser to boost stats and online image.

West Wing just got really political out of no where. A shame, too.

Honestly, anything that cashed in on the immigrant stuff in 2015. Deus Ex beyond the pre-order shit, just kept fucking with the setting in boring ways. In the original augmentation wasn’t a social phenomena, it played a part in how the ultra-wealthy controlled the poor. Human Revolution was okay with how they presented the conflict as basically being a smokescreen to hide that a guy’s resentment almost fucked with the Illuminati’s plans
Mankind divided was retarded because it really wanted to opine on immigrants and racism.

Why is Western mainstream media going so "woke" anyway?

It's crazy just how much the woke cult is being pushed.
I don't know. There are some good theories like ESG, the Hollywood/BBC/MSM/SoCal/Social Media bubbles these people inhabit, Entryism, or just good old fashioned cronyism, but those don't explain why it's still going on.

What do you think of the new season so far?
The first episode had a flashback where some black child was (technically) taken by CPS because his mother embarrassed him in school for acting “white” by doing trendy dances in front of the teachers and schoolchildren. (Before that, there was a flashback about how there was two fisherman — one white and one black — who had a conversation about how “whiteness” is scientific and that everyone has it, only until the black fisherman gets caught and trapped by underwater zombies of some sort and get thrown under the lake to drown.)

Only to then get taken in by two (possibly) lesbian moms who housed three other black children, who in the end would commit murder suicide while the kid effectively managed to get away through the back of a minivan, which then was thrown into the water. It was then revealed that the other children survived, while he was able to go back to his old house with his mother.

And speaking of, that was just the first episode. This was in the second episode:

Why is Western mainstream media going so "woke" anyway?

Same reason businesses in general all went Green in the 1980s, then Invested In People in the 1990s, and then Sourced Sustainably in the 00s: there is grant money in it, lots and lots of free grant money for ticking off a bunch of boxes and giving the piece of paper to a civil servant equivalent. You even get a double bite of the cherry given the sheer number of NGOs floating around giving out addition free cash for exactly the same thing.

As for Hollywood, there's a chap called Larry Fink who is busy handing over his $140Trillion fortune to anyone who flies the Diversity Is Our Strength colours over the airwaves, so everyone queues up with their little flags and their hands out. Quite why he's doing it is anyone's guess at this point. Soros has a grudge against ethic Europeans, his actions are understandable on that level. "Jennifer" Pritzker is trying to normalise his post-military PTSD that causes him to believe he's a woman by using his $39Billion Hyatt Hotel chain inheritance to spread the religion of Trannyism, that's graspable as a motivation. Fink, though, who knows? One hundred and forty million million dollars buys you just about anything you want. It would only cost three million million dollars to fly to Mars and start a colony there. Time will reveal his motivation, and I'd lay my own hypothetical million million that it has nothing to do with being nice to brown people, women, queers or the disabled....

As for stuff I no longer engage with any more due to politicisation: Star Wars, Star Trek, Dr Who, Games Workshop, Gillette, pop music, the BBC, in particular David Attenborough natural history shows, previously the best things on TV. I either enjoy old stuff pre-madness days, or just do something else entirely now instead. Not constructive things, of course, don't be silly, I meant mooning over v-tubers and dicking about in a DAW pretending I'm Liam Howlett, just without the talent.

Not sure about non-Western stuff from 2020+. But with Western stuff, I guess one could still enjoy stuff from before 2015 or so without running into too much "woke" BS.

Assuming such isn't being "memory-holed", that is.

How are David Attenborough shows woke? Last one I saw he was so old it would've been easier to bring the animals from Africa to him instead of trying to transport him to Africa, and that was pre-woke.

Individual sections are fine, some of the best visuals still come from his stuff:

That slow pull back angle, wrong footing the audience by getting us to expect entry from the right has few cinematic equals.

Yet try watching a whole show, you'll soon see. They scoured the planet to find the one fucking fish that changes gender three times, the one species of bird that lives in a lesbian polyamorous commune, the one gay lizard, on and on it goes. By themselves, as sections in a prior series they might have been interesting curiosities, but now you can hear the boxes ticking off in the background. Wheeling out the seahorse mpreg again is perhaps a small sign of desperation at being told the infinite diversity of nature just isn't diverse enough...

Can't blame Attenborough, he's white, male, heterosexual, he has to fly the flags higher than others. Like Lineker and Coogan, and pretty much everyone else in the same position over the age of 50 now. Want to keep broadcasting? You're a progressive now.

Wokery is a cult the ruling classes use to control the masses.
It's also like autism.

- Lack of "theory of mind": thinking all of a "community" are alike, and that "collective punishment" mentality - BS like "white privilege".

- Trouble telling fiction from IRL: BS like "fictional characters can't consent" or "Barbie dolls set unrealistic beauty standards".

- Rigidly categorizing subjects, like the thinking that leads to BS like the "hierarchy of oppression" or "cultural appropriation".

- Behavior like "stimming", like the need for having a "safe space" after exposure to the "Prickly-Wicklies" of the "problematic".

- Difficulty with subtlety: notice how SJWs can be compelled to advertise identity loudly all the time - like with "pride flags"?

- Excessive stilted and awkward speech: "wokespeak" like "exotification", "marginalized groups", and "microaggressions".

- Overthinking simple concepts, like how many different kinds of sexualities and "genders" SJWs can think there are.

- Intense fixation on identity politics like it's an autistic "special interest": "everything is political".

- Lack of a sense of humor: SJWs can be easily offended, and of course there's "cancel culture".

- Sensory issues: is there anything that's never "triggering"?

Holy shit, me too. I absolutely adore many of the topics he covers but damn does he have some astoundingly stupid takes, even for an outward lefy. I always felt some of the comments weren't exactly that bad but it just piles on after a few years of watching.

my personal breaking point was how ridiculously hypocritical his Final Fantasy fashion video was where he was defending absolute trash taste outfits like Nooj in FFX-2, implying people were uncouth rednecks who couldn't understand why HIGH FASHION was the real deal and you shouldn't talk bad about such avenues of expression then, imediately afterwards, went on a rant about how shit the outfits in FF XV were and how they made the main characters look like rich preppy boys and how being rich was bad. The cherry on top was later on how he retroactively judged those that cricized FF X-2 as homophobes that don't even know their own games that they've played, saying that had they know about the concept art for the older titles based on Yoshitaka Amano's work they'd have similar reactions, all of this with just smug implications and no sources of people complaing about the past artwork.

It's one thing to talk shit about stuff but to then go on and complain when others clap back at you in a catty passive agressive manner is such a bitch faggot move.

Here are the character design references for those that haven't played the games.

Yeah, like a cult. Those qualities you list apply to people brainwashed by cults. Young lefties sometimes have a stark, light-and-darkness contrast from before and after they went to university. Cults target autists and anyone else emotionally vulnerable with tactics such as love bombing.

The real mental disorders to watch out for the Cluster-B disorders.

Both games have bad fashion but Spira has the worst in the series, even worse than Kingdom Hearts. It's just gross how many Spirans dress like strippers.
who couldn't understand why HIGH FASHION

Wokescum manage to consistently say some of the most obnoxious things I've ever heard in my life. If hating the abominations that are camp and queer fashion makes me a homophobe then I guess I'm a homophobe.

I didn't know they had managed to infect 40K, that is most sad. I mostly stopped watching mainstream entertainment when it started to get too woke a decade ago and now I'm really getting sick of the woke shit in internet content.

As mention ThorHighHeels has been going further down that path, Noah Caldwell Gervais went on a trannyphobia rant in his Resident Evil video (because god forbid every culture on the planet doesn't worship dilation stations), Tim Rodgers went on a trannyphobia rant in his Cyberpunk 2077 video, just to name a couple of examples. I also keep hearing the same bloody argument that video games would be so much better under socialism. No, they wouldn't be better under socialism because video games would cease to exist.

And don't get me started on how hypocritical it is for them to say that while they rake in thousands of bucks a month on Paymetons. Tim Rodgers is making 20k a month and he hasn't released anything since last October (and that was the only video he released that year other than one on January 1st). There is a correlation between wokeness level and money earned.

Also I think GrimBeard is following a similar path to ThorHighHeels and doubling down on their style way too hard. It detracts a lot from the subject of the video. I think a short 5 to 10 minute video can stand to be heavily stylized, if it's any longer it should be more to the point.

Wtf has RE to do with troonery? Let me guess... he thinks Alfred Ashford & Morpheus Duvall are troons somehow.
Bingo on Ashford. https://youtu.be/CZUwmfeHB58?t=4720 From 1:18:40 to 1:21:15, he felt the need to go on about it for 2 and a half minutes which is longer than any other segment of the RE: CV review I think. Basically it boils down to the usual idea that all others cultures are wrong and everyone needs to think the way the reviewer does.

If Capcom wanted to be master trolls they could make a troon virus that causes people to mutate into a non binary zombie, sadly the name "T-virus" is already taken.

Off-topic but it's been done in porn parodies via giving women cocks

Years ago...I remember I stopped reading one series after a longtime character turned out to be gay. And this character was a child. There's another series I stopped reading for unrelated reasons (terrible writing overall). This one had always involved politics in a fantasy world, but never blatantly relating it to real world issues. But later I found out that it had become more political, such as the characters pushing for open borders. What a shame. These once-great books are now just cash cows and convenient methods for shilling politics to kids. 🤔

Is it the Percy Jackson series? Trump broke Riordan's brain.
