𝕏 / Twitter / X, the Social Media Platform Formerly Known as Twitter / "MUSK OWNS TWITTER"

I miss that Internet, where you could meet someone with ideas completely alien to your own, be baffled that anyone could actually believe that, and yet part as friends. "Wow that shit you just said was fucked up beyond belief, but yet, you said that shit and are obviously a person! Wow! Let's both go on our ways having both improved as people!" Okay it probably actually concluded as "wow you are a gargantuan faggot I hope I get to kill you at some point!" but you get my point.

Now you can't even call someone a gargantuan faggot on the internet without being banned for cyber bullying, oh how times have change so much.

Where do they all go now? Are we about to see a Reddit or Tumblr intake of spergs again?

God, I hope not. I liked it when people would still stay on it so we could mock their shitty takes. As based as Elon is, people are probably going to leave (not that he cares).
In a nihilistic sort of way I agree, but the amount of bullshit that gets said gets put on blast and are so easily found by the trending tab. I'd rather deal with inconvenience than hordes of idiots getting gaslit.

Its interesting to see Elon mention encrypted DM's. Seems like a great direction to take the brand. Twitter is essentially texting. Now that he's going for the "free speech" angle, using its dm feature to go after the wechat/whatsapp/fb messenger market with extra emphasis on security is potentially brilliant first step.

I like the encrypted DMs feature, but I'm pretty sure that everyone is going to mindlessly rage against it because it's "bad for free speech" or some shit.

that's part of the brilliance though. private conversation has to be - by far - the most "acceptable" form of free speech to protect. He pitches it as anti-surveillance and the narrative starts to shift.

I'm just spitballing here but it seems like a very plausible runway.

It seems unnecessary to me. Twitter is - primarily - a platform for public discussions, not private ones. And if you do want to have a private encrypted conversation with someone, there are already dozens of other apps with which it can be done.

Might as well remove Twitter's PMs entirely, IMO. Perhaps an unpopular opinion.

Realistically, if Elon posted here, what year/color account do you think he'd be? I'd guess a 2020 purple, I don't think he would have come here any sooner than that.

DMs exist so the user doesn't have to switch apps to have a private conversation with someone they may have already been talking with. It may not be a primary function, but it's a simple one to keep and promote for general user retention.

also a lot of sharing articles/items on said platform with commentary.

I know I'm a bit hesitant about what I say when sharing IG posts via that platform's dm's knowing meta's integrity. And to that note I read that dm's counted for something like 70% of the actual engagement on IG. (Edit: I got it from this tweet and it doesn't say % but does say people use messages more than story or feed)

Again, I'm just speculating here but it's and interesting tip of the hand. Who knows what this crazy African has up his sleeve.

It says a lot about Twatter that whatever hare-brained scheme Musk comes up with will still improve on the platform.

These people think Twitter is not only real life, but also the legal system.

This type of behavior always reminds me of when the Vic Mignogna lawsuits were being filed and Monica Rial (or one of the other woman being sued) said that a statement she had made on Twitter couldn't possibly meet the legal criteria for defamation because the Jannie's hadn't removed it.

Really just summed up the insulated realty these people live in.

They're hopelessly addicted to the point where most of them will pull a Shaun King and deactivate for attention only to come crawling back in a day or two. Even if they tried fucking off to another platform, they're not going to find the same level of engagement which is what hooked them in the first place. Ironically, if Musk dials back the algorithmic fuckery, they might be confronted with the reality of how much of their engagement was artificially boosted by A.I. in order to promote goodthink.

I really hate it when left wingers talk about "our democracy" when it's them that call their own culture white supremacy, rip apart the nuclear family, let in illegal immigrants with backward views, force definition changes to the English language (and force "Latinx" on Latinos), sterilise children under the age of consent and ruined companies by letting in unqualified women and blacks.

Fuck any lefty that tries to pearl clutch over "our democracy".
