I think it's because indulging yourself as a furry is a slippery slope. By acknowledging that you're a furry, you are admitting that you have a fetish that's so all-consuming that you are willing to identify yourself by it. After that, steps into further degeneracy are much easier.

I've heard the ones that claim they just like cartoons and think animals are cool. But then all I ever see are dog fuckers, diaperfurs, cubporn pedos and yiffers.

I think it attracts autismos because they tend to fixate on weird things and become obsessed. They grow up obsessed with weird things like Sonic's feet and it's all downhill from there. I've unironically been pondering this question as well. Particularly, why is it that so many furries are gay?
My conclusion is that they are people who are insecure about their sexuality, so by larping as a cartoon, they feel more "safe" and disconnected from their own personal actions.
Basically, "It's not me who is doing this degenerate disgusting fetish act, it's my fursona!"

That or they're just weird. Probably a mixture of both. I'm equally weirded out by people obsessed with anime porn or any kind of sexual cartoons.
