I'm going to call it fake given it doesn't seem to be reported anywhere and there'd be a ton of outrage if it'd happened as the spacewalk would have been broadcast live. Most likely this is from yesterday when they went on a space walk to remove some thermal blankets from a robotic arm. Someone probably saw a chance to make an easy flag edit out of the blankets waving around.
Also, for a real flag I wouldn't expect to see all that faffing about, and the last bit would be a full screen view of the gloriously unfurled banner in place.

More on Russian leased western aircraft. Sounds like at least two companies involved in leasing commercial airliners to Russia have accepted they're most likely never seeing them again and have written them off. It's a bad time to be in the airline insurance business right now is my guess.
Not too surprising. The whole thing with Russia clearly isn't going to have a quick resolution. Maybe not even if Putin suddenly dies peacefully in his sleep. So it makes a lot of sense to write the planes off as lost and work out how to get compensated for them later.

So it's been a while since we talked about how the Russian civilian airlines were doing so I thought I'd share this. Looks like retired jets are being put back In service. This is because their intended replacements, which were Russian haven't been delivered, but it does show options exist.
They sort of have options. I watched a nice video on it yesterday but didn't quite have the chance to post on it. Here's the latest video in the small series of videos I posted before:
It goes over their short, medium, and long term options.

TL;DW+a bit of my own commentary:

In the short term they're stuck mostly with their western aircraft fleet. The Boeings and Airbus' that they owned before the war and the ones they stole nationalized when the sanctions hit. However as sanctions banning them from various airspaces have cut them off from a lot of their normal routes, their need for planes is down a lot. So they can ground planes and use them for parts to stretch things out. The guy thinks they can keep that going for maybe a year at best. He doesn't think other countries are likely to serve as the middleman for parts either, and doubts black market sources would be able to meet the scale of Russia's needs. Remember, Russia was operating hundreds of western airplanes, over five hundred just counting the leased ones.
Anyways, I believe he's being deliberately optimistic here in omitting the possibility of Russia simply accepting a lower safety standard to keep these planes flying by using parts past normal safe limits or replacing them with non-certified/non-standard parts.

Next is them dusting off their old Ilyushin IL-96s. Useful but not enough to replace the western aircraft. Probably because wikipedia says only 30 were produced. Presumably he'd have mentioned the Yakovlev Yak-40 and Yak-42 your article mentions in a similar vein as well, but it sounds like that's somewhat breaking news likely coming out after he made the video. I'm not sure how useful those will be seeing as according to wikipedia the Yak-40 had around 1000 produced... from 1967–1981. So there are theoretically a lot of them, but they're pretty old and I don't know how many would be around still. While the Yak-42 was produced from 1979–2003, but apparently only had around 185 made. So likely not enough around to replace lost western craft. Really, in general there were reasons these planes were being replaced.

Anyways, back to the video, we come to medium term solutions.
The first being the Sukhoi Superjet 100 a.k.a. the SSJ100. It's Russian built starting in 2007 and is still in production. The catch is that they use a bunch of western made parts, most notably in the engines where apparently airliners are already concerned they'll have to stop operating the planes in a few months. So while the Russian manufacturer likely has a bunch of parts stockpiled that they can use for construction or maintenance, they're eventually going to run out of parts and be in the same place as the western built airplanes. It does avoid the problem that foreign manufacturers aren't going to be certifying Russian built replacements parts, Sukhoi can do it themselves. But that takes a lot of time and testing.

Next is the Irkut MC-21. It's a new Russian built design that was just starting to be introduced. It's in the same boat as the SSJ100 in that it still uses a lot of foreign parts, including having selected foreign engines. It has the advantage that they've at least tested it with some Russian engines successfully, it's just not certified with them. However looking at wikipedia it's at only single digits built so far and isn't expected to be introduced into service until 2023 when they're fully ready for the Russian engines.

Next is the Tupolev TU-214. Wholly Russian built, in active service, so great right? The problem here is production rate. There aren't many in service and while Tupolev is saying they'll be ramping up production, they're talking about hitting a rate of 10 per year... by 2025. For comparison, Boeing's producing around 27 Boeing 737-MAXs a month, and Airbus producing around 45 Airbus A320s a month. Remember, there are hundreds of airplanes that Russia needs to replace. So Tupolev manufacturing around 70 by 2030 isn't going to make much of a dent.

Long term, as in past 2025-2030, aside from fully Russifying the SSJ100 and the MC-21, there's a joint venture between China's Comac and Russia's UAC. They've been working together developing the CR-929. However its still in the design stages, and as currently planned uses a bunch of western parts. Hence it being a long term prospect.

And that covers the highlights of the video.

So yeah, Russia has options, but they're still in a difficult place as none of the options are really good. They're still stuck between choosing to operate a lot fewer flights, or accepting lower safety standards that wouldn't be allowed to operate abroad. Getting old planes out of mothballs just means the safety choices between "operating planes with parts used beyond their safe lifespan" and "operating planes with non-standard parts not certifiable as safe" just adds "using old planes with more wear and often inherently less safe design" as a third option. It's going to be years before the Russian airliner industry can reach anywhere near the same capacity using planes with modern designs that are entirely Russian built.

There's no Miranda warning in Russia so whatever he, or any other merc/foreign volunteer says can be used against him in a military or criminal court.
Why would they have a criminal court? Courts are so 20th century. This is the 21st century. Call them terrorists and lock them away. If you think about it, this is Russia. This is a place that people don't disappear but are disappeared.

Just think these guys didn't get paid and they aren't getting 72 virgins. I give you a new medical diagnosis "Post Adventure Depression".

Realtalk: War is, always has been, and always will be a way for rich, powerful assholes to cuck poor young men into getting crippled or killed for some bullshit that probably doesn't even concern them.

The army is retarded and gay - in every country. If you agree to let other men boss you around, yell at you, tell you when to eat, sleep and shit, and risk getting your dick shot off for shiny medals ( it's just an updoot you can wear, ffs :story: ), you're not a badass He Man warrior dude, you're a dumbass bottom bitch in BDUs.

Vince McMahon is the greatest Ukrainian hero I've ever heard of for wisely having nothing to do with this absolutely fucktarded nonsense. Vince - I want you to find a nice girl, dick her on the regular, and have lots of happy Ukie children. Because that's how you win.

Pretty much my point. They are getting on the GTMO short bus.

And yes Poland is a condom. It is a thin piece of material that helps keeps the AIDS away. That is until Europe and Russia want to have hard core barn sex. Then they rip through that shit and go after each other caveman style. So, for all the Pollocks here I hate to break it to you but you are a cum catcher.

i hope that zelensky in his last moments begs for poland to occupy the west and starts a proxy war where poleshits get fucked in the ass

Can Zelenskyy just shut the fuck up? He's basically the ultimate choosing beggar in global politics.

I haven't been following the war too closely since it started dragging out, seems like since Russian basically gave up on Kiev that not much has really been happening. I do wonder what the ultimate end goal for Russia is at this point. Probably Russia gets the Donbass region which is a pretty shit prize but Ukraine would probably agree if the West threatens to shut off the taps on arms shipments.
Time magazine did a puff piece on Zelensky. It basically boiled down to "he's Ukraines cheerleader" while his defense staff and generals are off fighting the war. Basically he's not going to shut up because his job is to literally make as much noise as possible.

I wonder what normies actually think when they constantly see him referred to as some great hero, achieving great things in the defence of Ukraine. Do they ever wonder how he is supposedly running a decisive victory against Russian aggression, yet seems to do nothing but press interviews and address foreign governments or other groups.

How the fuck do people think he is running a war when he's wasting time doing tours of empty war rooms for Australian TV?

Of all the western countries to be wasting time doing this, why Australia? He'll get a few hundred million in aid. Some surplus military equipment and hope they order some weapons from the US for them.

What honestly is to be gained from stuff like this? Unless it's just global propaganda for something worse to come.

Somehow i don't think that russian casualties are really that high or Ukraine would be playing propaganda videos of dead russian soldiers 24/7

For the same reason they give Fauci so much airtime.

But its good to remember that Putin literally paid the whore before he fucked her

A bit of side news, a Russian DOTA 2 player, Pure, was caught drawing the letter Z on the minimap in a DOTA 2 tournament qualifier match:

The significance of this is that Pure's team, Virtus.Pro, is playing as Outsiders, due to VP being associated with Russian Oligarchs. Their opponent, Mind Games, is a Ukrainian team with 2 Ukranian players on it.

Following that incident, BTS, the tournament's organizer, disqualified Outsiders from the entire tournament.

And here's Pure's statement about the incident. He claimed that it was an accident, which no one is buying because Russians Bad.

What I wonder is if bans like this will be come more common place in DOTA 2. Valve, who tries to be as hands-off about their games as possible, usually only bans players for either cheating (VAC bans), or match-fixing. One notable exception to that is when Kuku got suspended, and his team was disqualified from a tournament, due to racism against Chinese players in a pub game. It's as if some people in the community want Valve to become like the authoritarian game companies like EA, Blizzard, Riot Games, Wizards of the Coast, and Ubisoft, and want players to get banned for things like misgendering a person (even if that said person has something like a Xe/Xi pronoun), or for voting Republicans.

Did Theodore Roosevelt win great victories against the Nazis?

Heads of State in any war serve three functions. Starting the war, rallying the country to fight the war, and ending the war. They don't fight the war, and they certainly don't direct the thing beyond really meta objectives.

Zelensky gets props because if he had fled, the war would have ended on the first day. He also gets props for knowing a comedian doesn't know Jack shit about fighting a military campaign and he's letting his generals do the job.
