Agonal breathing is why good samaritans get confused performing CPR. They think the person is actually breathing, but in reality, their heart is still stopped and they need to continue. CPR has an abysmal survivor rate though. Doesn't mean you shouldn't try, but don't be disappointed if it doesn't work. It probably was nothing you could have done anything about in absence of an AED and knowing exactly why the heart stopped. Could be things like hyperkalemia and no amount of beating on the heart will fix that outside of a hospital. In this case, the guy may have broke his skull and neck and nothing you can do but call for 911 to pronounce, but you could still try if you wanted to and knew what you were doing.Scary shit. Obviously BMX guy's a retard (especially now lol) but this could be anyone falling backwards onto a curb.
