Rekieta et all seemed to think her career was fucked if it's confirmed, up to and including disbarment. (The clerk, that is. Perhaps, but that probably isn't a net good thing for them. The more they drain their coffers, the slower they are to fill them back up. If their donors dig too deep and damage their own positions in a panic now, it'll be even worse come 2024.

They'd have to sell that someone and the person they're set to replace can sit at the same time, just to have a hung vote on a court specifically sized to prevent exactly that, on a piece of legislation that there's several other ways to resolve more solidly.

They've confirmed her as his replacement. Changing that in post is going to be a hard sell at the best of times. Changing that in post just to keep a bad situation going is going to be incredibly difficult.
