These are rights because the state involved itself in the process, granting tax breaks, inheritance rights, and other privileges to people who have obtained a marriage license and performed the ceremony in front of a state-authorised official. If the civil union and the religious marriage were treated as separate things, then gay marriage might have been less of an issue.

Even if they did pass a federal law, the Supreme Court can still strike it down, just like how a lot of FDR's New Deal-related laws got nuked by the Supreme Court of the era.

This decision is saying the issue must be decided by state not federal legislatures.

Roe v Wade was a poorly done case. Absolutely no question there, even Ruth Bader Ginsburg thought it was a house-of-cards judgment that needed to be revisited (possible ulterior motives for such aside).

Maybe instead of whinging and waxing hyperbolic about this totally being the Handmaid's Tale come to life and how federally mandated rape is next on the agenda, the feminists should get off their asses and start preparing to make a sound argument or two for "right to terminate" to bring before the courts and enshrine it in law like they allegedly want, to replace Roe v Wade's sloppy judicial precedent. Or they can shut the fuck up about it, leave it to states to handle and move the fuck out of Oklahoma, Alabama etc.

Don't underestimate the MSM's ability to race bait about literally anything. As others have pointed out, abortion is disproportionally commited by blacks. The data is there, they just have to find a way to spin it.

I put that more on Obama and his administration/hangers-on being so arrogant and cocky about having the country locked up in their favor that they didn't pressure her. For all their bitching about the current state of the SCOTUS, I'd like to remind them that this is entirely their fucking fault for being so full of hubris that they thought they didn't need to hedge their bets.

Can't see this happening with abortion. There will be some big protests, probably a One Million Babykiller March on Washington. But nothing like the race riots we've seen almost yearly since Obama. Also there will be a lack of black thug/Antifa energy. Calling it now, some leftists will try to harness Antifa, and the rest will shut it down fast due to optics.

Also complete LOL at Pelosi and Schumer trying to blame Trump for this, like the Republican party was pro-abortion before 2016...

I don't at all understand the rationale of whatever retard leaked this. The Court is expressly designed not to take into account the kvetching of the masses, so if a bunch of people scream that a strange reading of a specific line of text that happened -once- is getting rescinded for being too flimsy - well, that doesn't really change what the court is getting up to. I mean, if you look at the amount of shit that Brown v Board rescinded from Plussy v Fergusson, it absolutely dwarfs the reversal of Roe's rationale.

A bunch of people screaming and farting over the draft isn't going to change whatever the end result is - whoever the leaker is should be slapped with a pretty hefty fine.
