There were still hard feelings on the part of Shiites who felt Bush 41 abandoned them and went back on his word after Desert Storm and of course the Sunni/Shiite divide, some of which goes back to the time of Ali's assassination as well as the British occupation, exploded once Saddam's iron fist wasn't there to keep it in check. Most of these stories are planted by the US IC intended to demoralize the enemy or provoke a US backed palace coup. Not that it is intended to actually work, but that it gets stuffed into a power point for their quarterly review and they know they need a slide demonstrating how much great work they are doing (“successfully seeded over 100 cointelpro stories in friendly press”). After reviewing for 5 mins they will move on to the next slide and everyone will pat themselves on the back and give themselves cushy promotions and assignments for the next year.
