If I had to guess, I'd say Ethan had much more clout during the Keemstar vs H3H3 videos 2 years ago, all eyes were on Ethan during that time so the sponsors were more willing to stick with him through being cancelled so they could get eyes on their products. He's been declining in popularity since then, so he had much less leeway with his sponsors when he said all that wrongthink about gays and they cut him loose.
