Sony hate thread

I've always wondered about those types that buy consoles just for their favorite sport. Do they just never get the slightest bit curious when they see so many different games on the shelves?
No, no they don't.

I have a few relatives that are sports junkies (one of them even plays hockey professionally). When I was a kid, one of them had a sega Genesis and it was nothing but Hard Ball 3 (baseball) and FOOTBALL!!! related games. Only non-sport related game he had was Sewer Shark for the Sega CD but if I recall, they were giving that one away with the system at the time. Now-a-days he owns a PS4 and like you'd expect, its nothing but sports shit and i think like one or two shooters

The hockey player has a xbone that has, you guessed it, nothing but hockey shit. The one non-hockey realted shit he has is fucking Rocket League, so that doesn't even fucking count as a non-sport game.

I figure they must be like sports games for their fanbases: essentially the same thing every year, and since that's all they play, they don't mind it all being the same thing over and over.

That being said, I've always wondered about those types that buy consoles just for their favorite sport. Do they just never get the slightest bit curious when they see so many different games on the shelves? Like, I'd understand if video games just aren't your thing, but you like Madden because you like football itself. But once you're all established and you've put 500 hours into Madden, surely you'd at least be curious about something else that caught your eye at the store?
My brother falls into this category. He is a massive PlayStation fan, yet all he plays are MLB the Show, Madden, COD, 2K, Fortnite, and Rocket League.

He only cares about PlayStation for the sole fact that it is what his friends play. He could give less of a shit about gaming outside of his small collection because to him the main thing he cares about is the online lobby with his boys.

This is probably the majority of PS players now, so it makes sense why Sony stopped giving a shit about output during the PS4. An audience of normies will buy up PlayStations just for the most basic bitch titles.

Yeah but it's like one of the most viscerally nostalgic games if you romanticize specifically the little bit of time between The Matrix and 9/11
And what a wonderful little period of time that was, made all the more precious by it's briefness.

Even when it was then technically the "new millennium" it still felt like the 90s, but like a, cyberpunk version of them.

Lol at anyone expecting a new sequel to PD to be any good by now, though. PD Zero proved that ship had sailed even by 2005. The best new thing that could have come from that series would have been an expanded edition as a GameCube launch title. Which I guess Rare should have done, considering it was a late N64 release and stretched that console to its breaking point
Am I the only one that doesn't think PD Zero is that bad? It's a flawed game but I still think it's pretty good, it's flaws are forgivable for it being a "launch title", what did people realistically expect for a game that had to drop day 1?

It's insane to realize that if anyone at Nintendo had been a little more forward thinking it could have been Nintendo that cornered the market on online frag fests, it could have been a Nintendo console as the go to and Perfect Dark as to go to instead of Xbox/PlayStations and Halo/COD.

I'm not complaining as that would have probably choked the life out of Mario, Zelda etc, but it is wild to think that literally the future of gaming was staring Nintendo in the face with Goldeneye and they just didn't quite get it, in hindsight it's so obvious.

But again, we got lucky as Nintendo going after that audience would have ruined Nintendo, still kind of interesting to imagine a world where saying "Nintendo" was still like saying "Xbox" today though.

The people that play nothing but COD every year are retards, sports game fans are even bigger retards.

I'm sorry, but it's true, that's the type of gamer for whom gaming is a mindless activity they want to do when they want to solely zone out, they're not looking for a deeper experience than that.

It's the same deal with sports both real and virtual, again, I know it's kind of harsh, but you simply aren't a very deep thinker if that's your number 1 hobby, the lack of curiosity of anything outside of sports games is proof of that.

I know whenever I play online multiplayer the sheer repetition makes the novelty wear off fast, the idea of playing something like that all year long it just confounding to me, it's fun in short doses but months and months of that?

The thing to note is that these gamers aren’t really gamers and the reason they like these titles is mostly due to the social aspect. A group of guys getting together for a round of COD to shoot the suit online is really all it is. Most of these people usually have more going on in their lives be it parties, school shit, a job, and only play games every so often.

I think there is more than a small degree of franchise fatigue setting in as well. The series' sales largely peaked with the original Black Ops and Modern Warfare 3. While the games still sell, there has been a clear trend downward. This isn't just a one off issue; its a consistent one. Call of Duty: WWII only sold as well as the original Modern Warfare. Last game to break 20 million was Black Ops III, all the way back in 2015.
even a shit selling cod is more than most other games, plus codfags are the fps version of fifafags, they hardly play anything else, they have a dedicated locked-in fanbase. if you wanna see how that works, look at fifa. fifa 22 has an abysmal user score with one of the worst monetizing schemes in the industry, yet still sold 9 million copies and was the top seller in 17 of 19 eu countries. the worst cod will still have more than enough people buying shit, because that's what they do and all they play. now imagine if cod would actually be good again...

the whole reason bobby shitting out a yearly cod was because people were still buying it, and will do so in the future. what else they gonna play, battlefield? halo?
sure, that gravy train was gonna end at some point like all things, but with the current state of the industry he hardly had to try.

Hardly irrelevant to my point about Microsoft's policy regarding new or revived IP. Also, Microsoft only began their buying spree in 2018, and didn't acquire Zenimax, for example, till the end of 2020. It would be unreasonable to expect Microsoft to match Sony's output in that amount of time (not that Sony's output is particularly amazing. Since 2018, Microsoft has published (not counting Zenimax titles) 44 games, and has 11 in development. At least 5 of those in development games are new IPs.
the ps4 came out in 2013, when sony teabagged microsoft that e3 the same year. that's almost 10 years to catch up, but what do they actually have to show? let's look at it...
almost all of their "new" exclusives got canceled, the only one surviving was crackdown 3, and we all know how that ended. if I'm generous and only start counting after 2018, that's still 4 fucking years (and ignoring for a minute it's the same company who spend the last 7 years wiping 343's ass fucking up halo), plenty of time of going all in, especially with their fuck you money.

it simply doesn't matter if they fund new games, shit out nostalgia bait, or something in between, because the same people are still running the show. why should I expect beth and all their other purchases suddenly produce 10/10 games when they or microsoft themselves where unable to do so besides shitting out crap or more minecraft and forza? there's a reason those companies got bought in the first place. fuck, the only reason people even consider microsoft is because right now people are able to get games for dirt cheap, not because their games are so great or the xbox is such a great console.

That's the thing; their recent failures have changed things. These guys are SPOOKED. Spooked enough that they are actually ending the yearly COD releases, and they were talking about doing that prior to Microsoft's agreement to buy them. Its the first time anyone at Activision has talked about a course correction. No matter what happens regarding the Microsoft deal, it won't be business as usual for the company.

You forget that there was a massive change going from the PS4/XBONE era to now; the ascension of Phil Spencer. Phil was promoted to his former position as "executive vice-president of gaming" on the Senior Leadership team in September 2017. At that point, he essentially started running the show, and started answering to Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella. Xbox Game Studios has gone through many eras of leadership and I'm primarily talking about the current Phil Spencer era. It was Phil who has been spearheading the company's massive expansion as of late. Phil's leadership is quite different from anyone who was running the company before. Phil acquired Playground Games and Undead Labs, which, admittedly, was just bringing in house a couple of studios that were largely already Microsoft exclusive, but he also brought in Compulsion Games and, most notably, Ninja Theory, which has already produced Bleeding Edge and is working on Hellblade 2 and a new IP. Then he lead the way in acquiring two of the most well known western RPG developers in inXile Entertainment and Obsidian Entertainment. Since then, Obsidian released Grounded, and is currently working on The Outer Worlds 2 and an entirely new IP, Avowed. inXile have released Wastelands remastered and Wastelands 3. Since then the company took on Double Fine (which released Psychonauts 2) and, later, Zenimax (who are producing a whole host of IP, old and new), and now, Activision. Xbox Game Studios' rate of growth since Spencer's assumption of control can't really be compared to anyone else in the industry, nor can it really be compared to pre-Spencer Microsoft Game Studios, which was really coasting along and only had five studios.

Microsoft was able to acquire those studios because Microsoft, as you said, has "fuck you money". Microsoft was limited to Minecraft and Forza because previous leadership had allowed their studio count to dwindle to only five. Forza, Gears, Halo, Minecraft, and Sea of Thieves were literally the only things they could produce without making deals with other companies. Most of the games released since the acquisition have been fine. There have been, thus far, no glaring failures, with the exception of the middling Bleeding Edge. In any case, its early yet; their biggest acquisitions are mostly recent or haven't happened yet (in the case of Activision), so its hard to judge them on anything.

That “we are OFK” shit made me wanna carve my eyes out with a knife and then hang myself. Life is strange is still more bearable than that garbage.

I just wanted Final Fantasy XVI
Friendly reminder that it's 2022. Summer is coming up, and usually in the summer Sony announce updated games along with newly announced games. Be ready for one of the wokest cringefest they call "games" that is We Are OFK. More like We Are SJW.

Just remember when looking at this and its' trailer on youtube with 71,000 views, the money that went into this could've gone into a new Ape Escape or Parappa game.

or Parappa game.
Am I the only one that has issues playing that game? I can play Doubles Mode on DDR with 1 PS2 controller and AA/AAA everything, but with Parappa even when I get dead-on with the timing and button pushes, I wind up missing more and getting a low score.

Parappa is really odd, most of the time you're better off finding the best freestyle combinations (Aka pushing buttons randomly until you get some rythm going with the phrases you're given) than following the prompts on screen. You can play it like a conventional rythm game but honestly the precision it demands is insane.

Parappa encourages freestyling. Try inserting 8th and 16th note patterns between the notes it tells you to press, so it comes out sounding like "check-check turn-turn signal to the right-right-rightrightrightrightright"

If you're playing on a HDTV it can be fucked, one of the devs even outright stated it.

So the earnings call happened

Playstation 5 met it's expected quota. It's now up to 19.3 million units sold.
They've invested a shitload of money with TSMC to build a factory in Japan and it should be up and running by 2023-2024. This is specifically so they can manufacture more hardware. So the people thinking they were going all in on PC are upset. Japanese beurocracy is a crippling thing, so by all means this is rather quick.
No Horizon Numbers, but the game keeps popping up every time PS5 gets a restock so it's been still selling after months and they've been prepping it for an expansion.
Over 70% of their game sales are digital now worldwide.
They're still going forward with IP development and making TV series and movies based on games. Everything across the board has been pushed back for everyone regarding this, even The Mario Movie has been delayed.

All in all if people were expecting a disaster like the PS3 it still doesn't seem to be happening. It's just a whole lot of wait and see because everything is hinging on component supplies. I mean by comparison at this point they knew the PS3 was in deep trouble in year 2 and were having measures implemented to rescue it.

I think they're using the Iceland financial trick(remember when their CoD gambling fucked up the global economy?) and rapidly switched ownership of ten playstations back and forth 1,930,000 million times right before the earnings call.

If most game sales are digital now, how do they not have numbers for Horizon?

Sorry bud, fake news as long as it is Sony doing badly per @Marissa Moira creed

They actually had to revise their forecast a few times due to components

here was the original cut

Last week, Sony announced that production was going to be decreased by 1 million PS5 units until March 2022. Initial plans included Sony producing 16 million units by March 2022, but due to worldwide chip shortages, the total number will now be 15 million units.Nov 26, 2021

then they had to cut it again

Sony lowered its forecast for PS5 shipments for the fiscal year to 11.5 million units, down from 14.8 million. As such, it dropped its full year revenue estimate for its Game & Network Services (G&NS) division by 170 million yen ($1.48 billion). At the same time, it expects 6 percent more profit despite lower game sales, thanks to the aforementioned unprofitable consoles.

so yes they did meet their quota. The 14.8 million had to be revised since they couldn't get enough parts.
