[#Holo GGW performer change notice]
"Nakiri Ayame" is scheduled to appear in "Hololive Golden Game Week" scheduled to be broadcast from 19:00 on May 8 (Sun), but due to various reasons, she has declined to appear.

Please note that.

少し身内の容態が良くないみたいなので帰省したりでばたついてしまいそう…!ごめんね
It seems that my relatives are not in good condition, so I'm likely to flutter when I go home ...! sorry

I tried giving her another chance but good lord, that voice performance... Why does she choose to speak in that stilted, forced, robotic monotone? Is it a part of the character? Obviously her fans love it and props to her for leaning into it I guess. It's a shame because I have seen clips where I enjoyed her dry sense of humour and I quite enjoyed some of her performances as her previous incarnation.

I think it's fine.

It's not for me, personally, but there might be a sect of fans who don't like knowing a streamer is putting on a voice or trying to overemphasize their excitement, and appreciate the more normie Twitch streamer-esque approach of being 'chill' and and lower energy.

I had the same problems as you did. What sold her to me was when she would break character - especially when she is with her co-workers or chat says the rare funny thing.

Apparently, China is going to cut back on how much people will be able to tip and watch live streamers in the near future. Minors under 16 won't be able to watch them past 10 pm and also won't be able to tip them in general. With how Niji EN has recently expanded to bilibili I wonder if it will affect members like Vox, Mysta Ryas, etc. No clue what the average age is of fujos. Admittedly bilibili isn't explicitly mentioned, so who knows if they're even affected by it.

  • China’s broadcasting regulator on Saturday put forward new rules that bar minors from tipping livestreamers.
  • The proposed rules also require online platforms to prevent such users from watching livestreaming services after 10 p.m.

In a different note, you guys know how sometimes this community is compared to bronies and furries and shit? Do you think that vtubing will go the way of those fandoms?
I honestly think the parody version of bronies take up too much space in discussion sometimes. As far as I can remember, there were really just a couple of reasons that fandom took off. The show had some creative animators working for it, which led to some funny stills and reaction faces, and it had some 'quality' animation errors leading to stuff like the infamous 'derpy' character. The other, and maybe the most important, reason was that a guy in 2010 wrote some really petty and retarded article about how western cartoons are shit now, and he's completely right, but he picked the brand new MLP show, which incidentally wasn't that bad, as his example. Someone posted it on 4chan and the rest is history. 4channers outside the target demo watched the show and found it cute/charming and saw that it was reminiscent of an earlier kind of Cartoon Network show. Like most things, r34 applied to the show, and so the coomers arrived. These particular coomers though were in a special position, because their cooming combined a lot of different degenerate stuff like furry, hentai, and the weird association with a 'childrens' cartoon.

So, I'm bringing up the origin of bronies for one reason. I think that bronies and vtuber fans are similar in certain key ways. They both were a niche subset of a larger culture (bronies with cartoons and vtubers with anime/streaming). They both had explosive growth in a relatively short timeframe, and because of this, people unfamiliar with some of the weirder aspects are quickly exposed to something they weren't previously aware of, which is what normies will remember. They both had/have hardcore detractors who attribute everything to a degenerate/sexual minority even though in all likelyhood most fans just simply like the product. Both of these groups say they just like their chosen show/streamer because it's cute/comfy/funny etc. I would argue the same mindset that drove the first few years of brony fandom is currently driving the vtuber thing in the west. There are people that want some low to no stakes healing/funny entertainment and they got caught up in the extreme growth of the current thing that fits the bill.

As an aside, In my view, the reason people had such a stronger reaction to bronies was because there was a misconception. There was r34 stuff that people outside that fandom stumble onto for one reason or another, and it disturbs them because this thing is supposed to be for children. So now, you have this image that the fandom is like a room full of kids with some creepy predators standing around them, when in reality it's all just older guys and some girls doing their own thing, and the children who watch it on saturday morning are largely sectioned off in their own place and have no contact because they aren't going to 4chan or other adult fandom sites.
Having said all of that above, I will actually answer your question. Firstly, I don't understand how people can compare vtuber fans to furries. I can kind of see why people compare bronies and furries, but I think that is largely a bad comparison too. As I explained in the spoilered section I think the comparison of vtuber fans to bronies is much more accurate. Yes, it will go the way of the bronies, mostly. But ask yourself this right now, what does that mean? The bronies, as far as I can tell, are still mostly in /mlp/ and use equestriadaily for news/discussion. The only difference is that they seem to have shrunk down somewhat, and I don't think that in particular will happen to vtubers, because vtubing is a new medium for streaming and will be evolving and innovating, whereas MLP is a tv show which will live and die by how much interest people have in the current iteration. The major difference is that the bronies are dependent on one show, and vtuber fans have an unlimited amount of indies and a few corpos to choose from. There will always be degens and coomers, but it's a folly to judge whatever fandom you're looking at against those people alone. So yeah it will go the way of the bronies, and by that I mean it will continue to grow until it cannot grow anymore, and then it will largely stay the same until the last gosling burns out and fades away.

Hmm..guess they got upset at Vox making a metric fuckton of chinese fujo money since youtube most certainly won't be bending over to enforce "time curfews" without screwing everyone else over in the process too somehow. I think depending on how severe it is it will be noticeable or it will be the same just instead of making like 30-70k/month, vox will make 25-65k/month. (Not real numbers but he makes so much any scaling back won't be that noticable to the top earners.)

So It wouldn't surprise me if they'll have to "move over" to BB if there is too much of a hit on youtube viewership.

I'm actually not entirely sure I agree with this sentiment on the vtubing industry.

Interest in V-Tubers lives and dies on the attachment people have towards the members they love, and it's very difficult to replace them with new members when they're gone. With every graduation the industry shrinks, because a portion of that person's diehard fans may choose to leave the hobby behind or, in the case of corpo graduations, follow their indie career and leave the corpo behind. They won't watch other V-Tubers more, they'll watch V-Tubers in general less because their attachment isn't to the industry, but to the individuals that just-so-happen to be in it.

There's also a lot of onus placed on certain members regarding how they affect the culture of the company. Monetarily speaking, Melissa Kinrenka graduating isn't going to hurt Nijisanji; she averaged about 600-900 viewers and wasn't really raking it in with SCs. She is, however, a huge cultural loss on Nijisanji as one of the company's figureheads in the singing department.

A Nijisanji without Kuzuha, Kanae, or Mito, or a Hololive without Pekora, Marine, Fubuki, or Miko would be absolutely devastating to how fans respond to the concept of V-Tubers and V-Tuber companies. Lain Paterson gets more viewers than Shizuka Rin, but it'd be Rin's graduation that is felt harder by the fans because her status as JK Gumi means so much to so many.

Kizuna AI was always innovating her tech and yet her numbers dwindled. The core of the V-Tuber community will always be attachment. The industry might continue to explode in growth, but there's still those few members who hold a lot of power over how people perceive the industry or the company they prefer.

I might agree if they all graduated at the same time and there was just a gaping hole left with no one new to fill the void, but Cover has lost both of their top earners, and both had massive viewership, but the viewers either followed them out the door or switched to a new member, or both. It should come as no surprise that I would be completely devastated if Ame and Gura left Holo, but I'd likely not stop watching vtubers all together because they fill a spot in my life that other entertainment options don't give me anymore. I also don't believe most people only watch one vtuber, because they are all doing collabs with either fellow company members or other companies/indies, so you will surely find at least one other talent you enjoy. And it bears mentioning again that, unless they graduate and leave the industry all together, it seems a lot of the popular graduates just 'reincarnate' or go back to their older personas. Yes it is very personality based, but do you think all of Kizuna AI's fans left the sphere? I'm sure most of them already watched other girls, and have just moved on from that vtuber to another one.

Depends on who you think the 'core fans' are. The paypigs/heavy hitters are 100% in the category of leaving once the streamer they like stops doing vtubing content, but I think there is a chunk of people who just generally want to watch more cute anime characters doing the streaming thing. It depends how quickly that novelty fades for the average viewer and that can be a really fickle thing.

Agreed. The real burst was 2011-2014 and once the 'newness' wore off, there was a decent chunk of people that 'left the fandom' where they went to seek out the next thing that gave them that hit. Hell, you can see a little bit of the runoff in SC's (in Hololive's case) in the chat having pony avatars sometimes and people like 2snacks putting effort into goofy vtuber animation skits. I also think that's why you'll see that mentality more in people sticking towards HololiveEN/NijiEN, because while they have their 'non-seiso' moments, they're generally just stupid, wholesome content.

Counterpoint: orca would have migrated to orca if rushineko didn't reincarnate.

I wouldn't be so sure with all that. Vtubers are a kinda new amalgation of different entertainment types. The genre won't be affected by some graduations.

Rio and Minase had an APEX collab and this clip is from their English only match. They did decent, when it comes to speaking English.

Gamma dropped the idea of having a drawing collab with Oga to Iofi, but then it turned into pro-wrestling drawing.

Roberu and Yumeoi were screwed the moment "Kagura Mea" was heard. Apparently, Roberu doesn't only spend money on idolm@ster gachas, but on having Master-servant relationship with women. Mea said it, so it has to be true!
