Yes it is very personality based, but do you think all of Kizuna AI's fans left the sphere? I'm sure most of them already watched other girls, and have just moved on from that vtuber to another one.
I'm tripping myself up on my thought process because it's a lot more expansive than an autistic post on KF can reasonably contain.
But I think that, in general, explosive growth of the industry might come at the cost of what made people get into it in the first place (see: Gaming, Cinema etc).
The difference between MLP and V-Tubers is that one is a cartoon and the other is a medium, so whilst MLP fans might be shrinking, the animation studio it's affiliated with might be stronger than ever. Similarly, the V-Tuber trend might continue to incline, but — and I am going to use Hololive as an example only because it's what most people can relate to and nothing else — within the specific context of the company, you could argue that it, too, has 'iterations': there is a Pre-Coco Hololive, a Coco Hololive and a Post-Coco Hololive, for example. Old fans may not feel like the company is the same anymore and either already left or somewhat cynically/skeptically continue to engage, whilst the new fans replacing them didn't know what they missed and enjoy it for what they know it as.
Persona 1-2 fans are hostile towards Persona 3-5 fans. There are Fall Out Boy fans who gatekeep newfags because they want their grime punk band back etc. So while I don't think the 'V-Tuber Community' will become like Bronies, I think it's certainly possible that situations may occur within certain sub-groups that cause fractures to materialise, or for 'growth' to replace 'SOUL'.
