I was quite disgusted. I wrote the new sources and editors of several larger outlets than ran the story - and wrote the writers too.

They just completely ignored the messages and emails regarding this. Primarily the problem was as with USA Today, that a contributor writer wrote the piece and not one of their in-house journalists. Still, to get no response was pretty disgusting.

They then placed the story behind a paywall and so I had someone with a subscription write them too - no response.

Reminder these journalists have to study for 4 years in university learning the dos and don'ts of journalistic writing and most don't even bother to do basic fact checking 9th graders do for essays. It's like the entire media has just accepted they are completely morally bankrupted and are okay with it. But I would qualify just as mechanics, computer engineers or any professional has clucks, so does journalism. There are great journalists out there. The few shit boxes that ran with this story I mentioned in another post with their names so hopefully in the future people can find out what fuckheads they are.

There is no greater sign of a hack as a journalist then one that ignores facts when they are later presented and refuse to update their "stories". that has to apply to USA Today as. whole too. I wrote them several times and they just ignored the whole thing. Very disappointing indeed.

If you make an exception on this "one widdle itsy bitsy issue" you send the message that an exception to the rule will be made, and all one has to do is lean on you hard enough and you'll do whatever they want. I've seen lots of good journalism in the last few years but like anything decent, you've got to buy it. There is a lot of good work going on and I won't compare a fry cook to a 5 star chef, even though they are both cooks. A good journalist needs time to work on a story and investigate, whereas a talking head needs time how to phrase it rather than investigate.

As a rule the chances of finding good journalism on Television with talking heads is fairly much a zero as they are paid to express opinions and drive a narrative. But good journalism pretty much IMO is investigative journalism and there is a lot of it going on. A good story might take a few months to a year to put together so the audience for it is limited. A talking head has to in 16 hours put together an argument based on loose information and there isn't time to dig - but they are expected to have a solid opinion about something they can't possibly have studied properly.

Journalism isn't dead at all. All that is happening is by statistics is that people prefer a talking head rather than reading, but a talking head never gives you the information wholesale, it is always cut down to fit - and excite/anger/seek sympathy. And few talking heads have ever read the information behind the summaries.

Yup. I've noticed consistently that large sums of money changing hands tends to get the attention of normies. When people heard how much Anita Sarkeesian's stupid fucking kickstarter raised, normie media outlets started picking it up. Homestuck gained unprecedented attention when they crowdfunded like 2 million from their fans. I wouldn't be shocked if there was some shady investment firm somewhere that will pump your crowd funding investment to let you save face/garner media attention, then make you pay it back for exorbitant interest. I can't prove it, but I've seen an awful lot of crowd funding projects get a ~20,000 dollar donation that puts them over the line at the 11th hour.

It think what stunned me about David Ginter's stunt was that it didn't sucker in all the news outlets and frankly it was pretty much contributing editors - as with USA Today Alia E. Dastagir - who is was basically a wannabe reporter running around on twitter looking for outrage.

But in light of the lies, instead of withdrawing the article, USA Today decided to put it up behind a paywall rather than remove it which speaks volumes as to the low integrity of the outlet. What still stuns me is that most outlets of any integrity would issue a correction but USA Today obviously had a personal gripe with KiwiFarms and used this an excuse to maintain the lies.

It shows their credibility is entirely at the whims of their personal likes and dislikes and undermines their other journalists because after all, if management is against corrections of known lies, then anything is subject to falsification.

Today the article still stands. Despite the obvious falsehood of his "death".
