Book 4 of the series; A Feast for Crows, was released November 2005.

Book 5 of the series; A Dance with Dragons, was released July 2011.

That's a difference of almost six years. If the next book - The Winds of Winter - comes out mid-to-late 2016, that's still shorter than the last period of waiting.

Not like Hayden even reads this shit, in all probability.

Here's the story for context, but I still have no idea how Hayden's joke is in any way related. A lot of Hayden's jokes make no sense, but this is making less sense than usual. A bunch of angry anti-government rednecks with guns have taken over a government building because two cattle farmers are serving out their remaining prison sentence for arson after they started(brush)fires(?) on federal property that they had been leasing = white Christmas?

He's upset that they haven't called in the National Guard on a group of armed protesters who are wholed up in some rural wildlife refuge building because they don't want another Waco and no-one is in immediate harm's way, whereas they called in the National Guard in on Ferguson and Baltimore when protesters were actively burning cars, looting stores, throwing bottles, and breaking windows. That is to say, Hayden (and some other people) are trying to make this a racial issue.
