Correct. These young groypers who joined "the movement" 5 minutes ago just take Nick's version of history as the truth when in reality it's a fabrication. The Groyper Wars was just young conservative groups organically coming together to troll Charlie Kirk and Fuentes just remotely took credit for it and said he organized the whole thing from his parents basement. He didn't. He was kekking on twitter like everybody else and took credit for it.
This is like a recurrent theme in (dissident) internet politics, especially on the right: a truly grassroots revolt which is later claimed by opportunistic johnny-come-latelys, powerhungry would-be leaders in search of a following and outright grifters hoping to make a buck or two.
In the beginning there was GamerGate, a grass roots uprising against progessivist entryism in the video game space with a subsequent battle to claim (moral and/or intellectual) leadership over this movement afterwards. It was a twitter hashtag and a 4chan discussion (which would be banned and continued on 8chan) during the early days. Collusion, corruption get exposed, journos get bullied on Twitter so much so that 10 years after they still talk about GG. This ordeal also gives us characters like Milo, Sargon, Ethan Ralph and others. Milo kickstarts his extensive Breitbart grift, Sargon begins his 'liberalist' civnat cult, Ethan Ralph begins his odyssey which would come result into an entire KiwiFarms subboard dedicated just to him and his antics. When looking at the state of mainstream and triple A games and vidya 'journalism' now it is fair to say the SJWs won.
Then there was the alt right, which was a brewing grassroots, broad tent revolt on the right against the Republican establishment which coalesced online around the insurgent candidacy of Donald Trump. This was born on various forums, 4chan, blogs and (then uncensored) social media and consisted of populists, libertarians, paleocons, religious rightists, confederates, white nationalists, fascists, NRx and whatever else. Wignats were parts of this coalition, but later managed to claim the label 'alt right' by driving all other groups away by doing unhinged, 'unoptical' wignat shit. Types like Milo and Cernovich at the time actually competed for leadership over the 'alt right' for a while. Ultimately the wignats won and this gave us Richard Spencer, Mike Enoch and his TRS and Anglin who produced disasters like Hailgate and Charlottesville. In the afermath of Cville the censorship wave kicks into high gear, the wignats are weak and after a cringe fest of a 'college tour' Spencer lost what little credibitlity he had left and the Weekly Sweat/Nick/assorted groups on the right smell blood and take him and the wignats down.
The Gropyer Wars at the start were just two college kids who asked Charlie Kirk very inconvenient questions during a college tour, attacking Con Inc positions from the right which caused Kirk to stutter and lose the plot. These moments went viral and inspired more kids to copy them at events afterwards, Nick started reporting on this with his show, encouraging the phenomenon and later on even coaching the questions. At this time Nick approriates the 'groyper' meme from the original groyper community (who hate Nick) on Twitter and uses it to refer to unknown question askers. The online right wing guys like Patrick Casey and Vincent James who participated in the IRL question asking became the first batch of Nick's defacto lieutenants - later to become known as 'groyper generals'. During the end of the Groyper Wars the plan was also hatched to attempt entryism in and subversion of TPUSA chapters at various universities, this is how Jaden McNeill and Nick meet, but TPUSA manages to contain the problem. Then Covid happened and campus politics shuts down, now we are here: Charlie Kirk won, Nick lost.
TL;DR pattern of dissident right wing movements of the last 10 yrs: right wing grass roots revolt happens - opportunists jump on it and proclaim themselves leaders afterwards - leaders create their own spin off movements which inevitably implode due to a combination of incompetence, narcissism and outside (political) pressure - the original grass roots revolt in the long run is an utter failure.
