ETA: so I'm not double posting, but I just keep mulling over the whole "I'm gonna adopt an LGBT kid from the South!" and I think I've finally touched on why this perturbs me. This is retarded and a shitty way to explain how the US government operates, even as a simplified explanation for a child.

No, the Supreme Court doesn't "tell people what they can and can't do". That gives the impression that they're a ruling body deciding things for themselves, instead of the reality, which is that they interpret the law that the people themselves have already democratically voted into place (whether indirectly through legislative bodies or directly through things like ballot initiatives).

I'm very pro-choice but Roe was genuinely a shitty decision and an example of legislating from the bench. The current Supreme Court didn't "decide" they didn't want women to be able to have abortions, they interpreted that the constitution (properly, in my opinion) doesn't guarantee a right to abortion. At the very least, the constitution doesn't protect a right to an abortion through a vaguely argued "privacy" argument. Anyone who is paying attention to the issue knows Roe was widely regarded as a shitty ruling that was going to get overturned eventually.

Women can still have abortions, they just need to be protected through the legislative process, not by an executive fiat handed down by the Supreme Court. Savvy activists should've been (and some have been) working on this in the state legislatures.

Fffff civics education is sorely lacking and dipshits like Tony here are exasperating the problem in the next generation.

Re: adopting an LBGT kid. Unfortunately, as someone who was involved with helping a friend with the fostering process, I learned that you actually can ask specifically for a LBGT kid, well, kind of. When you go to websites and look at the list of kids available, you'll notice that some of the kid's profiles will say "This child would prefer his/her foster parent to be LBGT friendly". If that isn't enough, the other issue is that some of these kids you can just TELL are LBGT. Lots of kids wearing trans or lesbian badges in their photos, etc.

All that being said, I don't think we have to worry about Erin fostering anyone. Adoption and fostering agencies actually Google your name and run a background check. Any competent agency would find this thread and NOPE the hell away from Erin. Even if they were very pro trans, they would not want to set up a kid with a person who has their own thread and risk the kid's face and information being documented here.
