The left will never decide of their own will to move to the center. Anything that would force them to move to the center will only cause them to escalate the measures by which they can remain extreme. And assuming the stories about him browbeating and bullying Kavanaugh and the other Trump appointed justices into cowing to his demand that they stab Trump in the back and back Biden in the DNC's stealing of the election, I can see Roberts throwing a queen size tantrum over Alito telling him to fuck off and Kavanaugh and company refusing to be bullied over banning Roe Vs Wade and Roberts, in a huff, going scorched earth and leaking the decision to bully them that way.

All the more reason for the dial-a-riot people to make folks scared that the projected annihilation of the Dems at the midterms might hurt them. The Dems (Pelosi and Schumer, TPTB) might happily sacrifice Manchin to stave off being gutted wholesale in the midterms. Look for headlines about Manchin being linked to Epstein, or being caught with his dick in a goat or something.

For the longest time the comprise was that gays get civil unions and the straights get marriage with both being exactly the same law wise with benefits, visiting rights, etc. That was what was silently being passed state by state and everybody seemed to be okay with it but the machine created from the AID's epidemic needed a fresh cause so gay marriage was the push.
