President Joe Biden on Tuesday said that the United States will impose sanctions “far beyond” the ones that the United States imposed in 2014 following the annexation of the Crimean peninsula.

“This is the beginning of a Russian invasion of Ukraine,” Biden said in a White House speech, signaling a shift in his administration’s position. “We will continue to escalate sanctions if Russia escalates,” he added.

Russian elites and their family members will also soon face sanctions, Biden said, adding that “Russia will pay an even steeper price” if Moscow decides to push forward into Ukraine. Two Russian banks and Russian sovereign debt will also be sanctioned, he said.

Also in his speech, Biden said he would send more U.S. troops to the Baltic states as a defensive measure to strengthen NATO’s position in the area.

Russia shares a border with Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania.

A day earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered troops to go into the separatist Donetsk and Lugansk regions in eastern Ukraine after a lengthy speech in which he recognized the two regions’ independence.

Western powers decried the move and began to slap sanctions on certain Russian individuals, while Germany announced it would halt plans to go ahead with the Russia-to-Germany Nord Stream 2 pipeline.

At home, Biden is facing bipartisan pressure to take more extensive actions against Russia following Putin’s decision. However, a recent poll showed that a majority of Americans believe that sending troops to Ukraine is a “bad idea,” and a slim minority believes it’s a good one.

All 27 European Union countries unanimously agreed on an initial list of sanctions targeting Russian authorities, said French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian, and EU foreign affairs head Josep Borell claimed the package “will hurt Russia … a lot.”

Earlier Tuesday, Borell asserted that Russian troops have already entered the Donbas region, which comprises Donetsk and Lugansk, which are under the control of pro-Russia groups since 2014.

And on Tuesday, the Russian Parliament approved a Putin-back plan to use military force outside of Russia’s borders as Putin further said that Russia confirmed it would recognize the expanded borders of Lugansk and Donetsk.

“We recognized the states,” the Russian president said. “That means we recognized all of their fundamental documents, including the constitution, where it is written that their [borders] are the territories at the time the two regions were part of Ukraine.”

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Putin said that Ukraine is “not interested in peaceful solutions” and that “every day, they are amassing troops in the Donbas.”

Meanwhile, Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky on Tuesday morning again downplayed the prospect of a Russian invasion and proclaimed: “There will be no war.”

“There will not be an all-out war against Ukraine, and there will not be a broad escalation from Russia. If there is, then we will put Ukraine on a war footing,” he said in a televised address.

The White House began to signal that they would shift their own position on whether it’s the start of an invasion.

“We think this is, yes, the beginning of an invasion, Russia’s latest invasion into Ukraine,” said Jon Finer, the White House deputy national security adviser in public remarks. “An invasion is an invasion and that is what is underway.”

For weeks, Western governments have been claiming Moscow would invade its neighbor after Russia gathered some 150,000 troops along the countries’ borders. They alleged that the Kremlin would attempt to come up with a pretext to attack, while some officials on Monday said Putin’s speech recognizing the two regions was just that.

But Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin told reporters Tuesday that Russia’s “latest invasion” of Ukraine is threatening stability in the region, but he asserted that Putin can “still avoid a full blown, tragic war of choice.”

Has anyone have the scheduled time for the parade? If possible the livestream link as well. Considering people are hyping it up as a possible turn for this war, I'm thinking it's worth it to watch

Has anyone have the scheduled time for the parade? If possible the livestream link as well. Considering people are hyping it up as a possible turn for this war, I'm thinking it's worth it to watch
If there's a big happening I usually just pull up livestreams on Youtube

I yoinked this one from DW news. I've watched UN meetings on this specific channel and they do a good job not adding any of their shitty journalistic commentary to the background. But if they do for whatever reason just type "Victory day parade" into the searchbar and you'll be greeted with like ten different high quality streams

The parade starts at 10:00 am Moscow time; AKA four hours from now

Does he have enough troops left in Russia to actually march? Also the Motorpool guys must be working overtime to cobble together enough semi functional T-34's and T-55's to fool the locals.

Well according to Forbes they've scaled down the parade by like 35% compared to previous years

Parade guides show that only 25 Russian ground combat systems will be represented by 131 ground combat vehicles. That might sound like a lot, but, last year, Russia deployed 198 vehicles from 35 separate systems...

After confirmed losses of at least 600 tanks, Russia’s battered army now seems unable to spare mainstream armored vehicles—staples of any Russian military parade. After losing at least 114 T-80 tanks of various flavors, Russia’s military is now apparently unable to find 10 display-ready T-80 main battle tanks.

The number of Russian Infantry Fighting Vehicles participating in the parade was cut by 50%. Only 3 BMP-3 Infantry Fighting Vehicles will parade through Red Square. Artillery and multiple rocket launch systems have mostly disappeared, represented by a single class of 152 mm self-propelled howitzer and an “updated” version of the old 122mm Grad multiple rocket launcher—a battlefield system that was cutting edge back in the 1960’s

In a sorry effort to boost the number of systems on parade, the Russians are even highlighting the lowly tank transporters employed to carry Russia’s poor-performing unmanned ground system, the Uran 9. Tank transporters have never gotten such recognition in prior parades.

Even more interesting is that Russia seems unable to grow the number of advanced weapon systems. After revealing a number of new—and much hyped—armored vehicles in 2015, Russia’s arms factories have evidently been unable to build parade-ground ready demonstrators.

Production seems frozen...

Russia’s new main battle tank, the T-14 Armata, made a Victory Parade debut in 2015. And, despite all the ambitious talk about how the new tank was out “in the field” and working through production kinks in Syria, Russia somehow only has three examples ready to show in the Red Square parade—the three-tank parade fleet has remained steady for three years now.

Other new systems—armored vehicles that might not be quite ready for battle but certainly should, at this point in their development, be available in sufficient numbers for parade duty—just haven’t grown. Along with the T-14 Armatas, there’s no evidence Russia has been able to build up other critical components of their next-generation armored vehicle fleet.

Next week, Russia is set to display only three copies of the Kurganets-25 infantry fighting vehicle. First shown in the 2015 Victory Parade, production seems to have frozen. Another example from the 2015 parade, the VPK-7829 Bumerang armored car, is stuck with an unchanging inventory of 3 parade-ready platforms.

If Russia’s military parades are any guide, the Russian Army’s modernization is little more than an overhyped mirage.

Beyond simply emphasizing the strain Ukraine is placing on Russia’s army, the 2022 Victory Parade suggests that Russia’s armored vehicle production capabilities are crumbling...

The message sent by Russia’s planned military fly-over is even worse.

After losing at least 39 helicopters in Ukraine, Russia can only muster 15 helicopters for parade duty, down from 23 in 2021.

Russia’s fixed-wing aircraft are also facing serious losses over Ukraine. After loosing more than 10 modern Sukhoi Su-30 and Su-34 fighter aircraft on the battlefield, none are showing up for the parade. Instead, the Victory Parade overflight seems set to celebrate Russia’s lost military glory, represented by a creaky fleet of Mikoyan Mig-29 fighter jets.

The shift in attention is stark. After relegating the “Fulcrum” to the back benches in prior parades—only 4 Mig-29s passed over Red Square in the last two Victory Day celebrations—Russia is highlighting the old Soviet-era jet in a big way.

This year, Russia is deploying an incredible 16 Mig-29s—the ‘70’s war horse will represent more than 25 percent of the fixed-wing aircraft Russia plans to fly over Red Square on May 9.

In a sad effort to snatch back some of the glory Ukraine’s Air Force has enjoyed with its fleet of cast-off former Soviet Mig-29s, Russia is even sending the old fighters out to conduct a tawdry “Z” pattern fly-by.

I know the equipment is needed at the front but it's still pretty pathetic tbh. This war was supposed to last like two weeks maximum

>We are now hours away from the cope parade

Okay gentlemen, take your bets; What will the Monkey Tsardom do to escalate the war?

Will it be:

1) Mass conscription of all young men and a transition to a wartime economy. Scary on paper but in practice will probably just consist of sending more poorly trained, demoralized innocent young men into the meat grinder at great cost to Putin politically

2) Declares "victory over Ukrainian Nazis;" Institutes a limited conscription to wipe out "the last pockets of resistance to Russian liberation"

3) Citing bullshit referendums, announces the annexation of Luhansk, Donetsk, and "Nova Russia" into the Russian Federation proper. Threatens to retaliate against anyone that encroaches on "Russian territory." The rest of the world laughs it off and another one of his pathetic red lines get crossed

4) Vague nuclear threats toward the west and other "hostile nations" if they continue intervening in Ukraine. Causes a scare in the short term but in the long term just makes everyone hate Russia even more and the west doubles down

5) He literally doesn't mention the conflict at all lmao. He maybe makes a few vague statements on how well the war is going but he doesn't elaborate any further

6) Something completely different and unexpected

Whatever happens it won't save Putin from the weight of his own failures
Praying the Ukies cuck that Crimean bridge tomorrow, too
I think a mix of 2 and 3, full mobilization is the most retarded thing I can think of happening, so it'll probably happen because before this I thought an actual invasion was the dumbest thing Putin could do and he'd be satisfied with salami slicing Donbass and laughing at the west for being warmongers crying wolf.

Here is supposed video of Ukrainian attacking a Russian Sub that had been firing off Kalibr missiles. Of course it's one of those annoying robot voice channels of questionable repute. As with everything regarding this war, view it with a grain of salt or two. So many questions regarding this claimed attack.
one of the warning signs is the Thumbnail proclaiming "Russian Nuclear Sub under heavy attack". Which is complete idiocy. If this is real it's a rundown old Diesel that can only fire its missiles near the surface. Actual Nuke subs don't come up in a war zone.

First of all, I don't believe this for a second. But, hypothetically, with US alphabet boiz accidentally on purpose mentioning that they helped Ukraine pot the Moskva, how would the Russkies take losing a boomer at this point since it's a strategic asset, and they know we'd have had our hand in it?

I saw this yesterday, and thought it was another compilation of those patrol boats getting blasted; which was why this image at the beginning confused me:

Certainly does look like a diesel sub.

Pretty sure that's a shot of Snake Island through the thermal camera on one of those drones that are giving the Russian military so many headaches. But yeah, Old diesel boat on the bottom via sidescan sonar? Surprisingly similar look.

Elaborate your statement.

You are claiming that nothing else matters than being there and fighting all else can be dismissed, yet that is not the course you followed yourself, you took other factors into account and made your own decision, IE what you argue is taking narrow view of things where you personally took more wider and view of things, considering all factors and made your decision and not unjustifably so. In short you claim that Being there and fighting is only thing that matters and other factors should be disregarded, yet you yourself evacuated with your family by taking stuff into account and determining it justifiably on basis of wider approach.

And their mechanic better be certain the T-14 doesn't have parade ground gear box issues again, lest he be drinking funny Putin tea.

the really big here is that all those come from proper St. Pete's and Moscow, not some bumfuck far east where they eat dogs and shit outside.

people who live there are more vocal and tend to know ways to avoid draft.

That might suggest they'll end up with a mix of hitherto judged unfit or exempted with vertigo or whatever, the poor, stupid and some ultra patriots.

I honestly thought Putin was just gonna widen out his limited Donbass gains a bit more and try hold that Crimea-Donbass corridor. This is mad sunk cost fallacy stuff if this mass mobilisation is on, which it seems to be. Again I thought, before all this, Putin might push hard for the enforcement of the Minsk Accords as could part puppet Ukraine (giving the Donbass 'republics' veto over the rest) by the time he's in his Brezhnev dotage, alongside some little green men stuff. Oh well.

That is a Ukrainian UAZ-469 converted to an ambulance. The UAZ-469 has been the primary light utility vehicle of Russia (and Pact nations) since the 1970's. I don't believe there is anything in NATO inventory like that, and probably hasn't been for decades. The Ukrainian military is being forced decades ahead of where it used to be thanks to NATO armaments arriving. A Leopard 2's internals would probably seem like a spaceship compared to what's inside a T-72, even a modernized one.

Aside from the fact it's a Land Rover built by UAZ? Of which some flavour, derivative, or copy was in every nations arsenal as a light utility vehicle until quite recently filling in rolls of transport, convoy leaders, scout vehicle, ambulance etc until the mid-late 2010s?

Yeah, but it's the equivalent of a Series 2 at best, when everyone else was using the equivalent of a late-model Defender.

There's nothing really that different in the controls of either. The Wolf is a military spec Defender which is the one seen the most in many western militaries, the previous one was the half ton lightweight, which are series 2/3 variants. So yeah, the UAZ is likely a Series 2/3 style one, and really there's nothing wrong with the Lightweight design, same as the Wolf 90s either, its why the damn things have lasted.

Russia Cancels Military Flyovers on Victory Day Amid 'Adverse Weather

Article - Newsweek

Russia's Victory Day military flyovers have been abruptlyc anceled in Moscow, and in at least two other major cities that were due to hold parades to commemorate the national holiday.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Monday the air portion of Moscow's Victory Day parade in the city's Red Square had been canceled "due to the weather," Russia's state-run news agency TASS reported.

According to local weather forecasts, Russia's capital will see light rain showers and a moderate breeze until 7 p.m. local time.

Just an hour earlier, officials said aerial demonstrations in Russia's fourth-largest city, Yekaterinburg, would also no longer be going ahead. No explanation was given for that sudden cancellation.

'Adverse Weather Conditions'

When pressed by local outlets, the press service of Yekaterinburg's Central Military District refused to comment.

Meanwhile, in Russian city of Novosibirsk, military flyovers were canceled in the city's Victory Day commemorations "due to adverse weather conditions at departure airfields."

Russians have a lot of problems with the weather lately.

Yeah 'weather.' In the old high Soviet days the clouds would've been sprayed (by silver iodide presumably). Utter monke copium.

Russian propaganda is going to have a field day with events in Poland where their ambassador and his entourage got pelted with fake blood and other questionable liquids while attempting to lay flowers at a red army memorial site as crowds call them fascists.

rusambassadorpoland1.jpg
Edit: This will likely lead to what little remains of diplomatic relations between the two countries to a close, Polish state is responsible for the safety of all foreign ambassadors on it's soil and while interior ministry advised the embassy against any May 9th celebrations it is still a fail that will be used by russian propaganda machine.

Russian ambassador only said russian talking points and said he is proud of putin.
