There’s a phenomenon called “stone babies” but they seem to only occur in abdominal pregnancies and not uterine pregnancies (that I can find).

Thank god a funeral home has the baby. I was having nightmare pictures of Kim taking it home and using it as a grift prop until its skin started to rot away.

I'm betting the funeral home is doing this at no cost,because it's a custom for many of them when an infant dies.

The fetus wasn't actually rotting because there was no bacteria in the womb to cause it to rot. Rather her own body was leaching fluids away from the dead tissues, breaking them down.

This kind of stuff happens all the time in animals that have litters, one will die in utero, and the body reabsorbs what it can, and the mother gives birth to a mummfied piglet or kitten or puppy.

I think that the first fetus was almost a fetus papyraceus, which is a rare condition affecting multiple gestation pregnancies. When one of the fetuses dies, it becomes entrapped between the uterine wall and the amnion of the other fetus, flattening it and causing it to become almost mummified, hence the name.

The dead fetus wasn't rotting. If it had been, Kim would be dead, and we aren't that lucky.
