I missed the exact number of days but it's limited. There's a status conference in July, though, which is why I considered it a possibility he takes the plea at that point. The prosecution, rather graciously for feds who are usually inordinately scummy about everything, did appear to indicate that there was a limited time after today that this idiot could take their offer.

My dream scenario is that he blows it off, goes to trial, and his prior behavior all gets entered into evidence as to sentencing, something that wouldn't be allowed at trial (well unless he fucks up massively and opens the door to it which he probably will given half a chance). Honestly anyone who saw a supercut of this guy's douchebaggery would want to see him get traded back and forth between Aryan Nations (for being a fed) and the Black Guerilla Family (for being a honky).

It requires what is called an allocution of guilt, in which the perp admits that yes, they did in fact commit exactly the illegal act with which they are charged.

Without that, a guilty plea cannot be accepted. Period.

It would be a fundamental violation of the rights of the defendant even to allow that. In fact, if a judge were so incompetent as to allow Baked to do this, he could immediately appeal his own guilty plea on the grounds that the judge, clearly illegally, accepted a guilty plea from someone claiming innocence.

You can't plead guilty while saying you're innocent. When asked directly if he is guilty, Baked responded that he believes he's innocent. The judge can't say, "Okay, you're saying you are innocent but are pleading guilty out of fear. Guilty plea accepted. Off to prison!"

A component of a guilty plea is describing your crime to the court. You're not just signing a piece of paper, you have to explain why you're guilty. Many people plea guilty and then appeal their conviction later. It really helps your appeal to be on record saying you're innocent but are taking a deal out of fear. That's why the judge flips his shit and says the meeting is over when Baked says he's innocent. From the judge's perspective, allowing someone who believes they are innocent to go to jail without trial (their right) is an injustice. The judge does not represent the interests of the government.
