It seems like they have been using it at least since April.Pretty sure that's a PTRS-41; although a semi-auto, they seem to be manually running the bolt after each shot.
Edit: here's an TFB article about the PTRS & PTRD; I've always wanted one, along with a Lahti (or a Solothurn).
Soldiers of the DPR Armed Forces in positions with the PTRD (Degtyarev Anti-tank Rifle). (2:15)
The anti-tank single-shot rifle of the 1941(!) Degtyarev system (PTRD) is a Soviet anti-tank rifle developed by A. A. Dementiev's group at the Degtyarev Design Bureau and adopted by the USSR Armed Forces on August 29, 1941.
Only "Old Men" are going into battle.

Not only was "1000" men a retarded claim because there weren't 1000 men even there, but probably up to 50% of those vehicles were straight up abandoned. "Our bridge is gone and artillery is zoned in on us, let's GTFO and leave this walking target behind" is the thought process there. People really have to stop looking for mass casualty events because those were rare even in wars with a lot more participants. Even 140 is a hopeful number, to say the least, it assumes that basically everyone in these vehicles died, without leaving much space for even the injured.Interesting counterpoint to Ukrainian claims that they iced an entire battalion in the river crossing attempt. Full size below because it contains some more interesting bits.
All these histrionics are so incredibly petty. You want nothing to do with Russia, fine, I get it. Ban the language if you must, remove the monuments if they are triggering you that much, divorse yourself from the shared history - your country, your rules. But this seething is unbecoming at best and plain vitriolic at worst.Defenders of the monument to liberators in Riga, who at this moment are gathered for a rally at the Metropolitan Duma, are being given such "tickets" to leave the country; it says "from Latvia to Mordor Vatnik".
If you read the full piece that's more or less source's point - that many of the vehicles were probably intentionally destroyed and that the Russians probably had crossings elsewhere. This is from a UK security research company published on the BBC so their analysis is likely to lag behind intelligence more favorable to the Russian advance. I intentionally post stuff from mostly western media so that Zelenzhccuiy dick riders can't accuse me of posting Russian copium. Not only was "1000" men a retarded claim because there weren't 1000 men even there, but probably up to 50% of those vehicles were straight up abandoned. PS: They managed to cross the river in two different spots a day later so that article is already outdated or straight up lying. My guess is that if anything good came out of there for the Russian side, it was counter-battery fire on whatever artillerymen did it.
But it's also hilarious; turns out comedy does have propaganda value...... this seething is unbecoming at best and plain vitriolic at worst.
At this point I am confident they are actively trying to provoke resentment.
Nah, I like the Russian approach better-call everyone your brother and murder anyone that opposes that with extreme cruelty. It is affectionate and brutish as a drunken bear, which is quite fitting. All these histrionics are so incredibly petty. You want nothing to do with Russia, fine, I get it. Not really. Note that it's not Russians who are taking down monuments, throwing paint on embassadors, writing shit on embassy walls, drawing offensive cartoons or going out of their way to shit on [insert nationality other than Ukrainean] in Youtube and news article comments. But it's also hilarious. And don't Russians already resent Latvia for throwing their lot in with Lithuania & Estonia? I've always got the impression that of the three states, Latvia was the most Russocentric.
When did you serve?Always appreciate the input of fake vets.
Guys, it's 2022. You all need to be more orc-inclusive. Stop being such biggots. Not really. Note that it's not Russians who are taking down monuments, throwing paint on embassadors, writing shit on embassy walls, drawing offensive cartoons or going out of their way to shit on [insert nationality other than Ukrainean] in Youtube and news article comments.
There is precious little thought about Latvians/Estonians/Poles until they go out of their way with these shenanigans as they yell "NOTICE HOW MUCH I HATE YOU, B-BAKA" and it makes the news... Again.
Yeah, I get it, you hate us. What now? You are saying this because you hope to get punched in the teeth so you can scream about Russian aggression or?..
I swear, the citizens of Butthurt Belt do not take pride in how well their countries are doing (assuming they are), they take pride in how bad things in Russia are instead. This is not healthy.

That is cringe, but not quite as cringe as calling what the Red Army did in the Baltics 'liberation'.Defenders of the monument to liberators in Riga, who at this moment are gathered for a rally at the Metropolitan Duma, are being given such "tickets" to leave the country; it says "from Latvia to Mordor Vatnik".

Well, he has already provided them with equipment and he now has a twitter, and a twatter is the only battlefield their supporters may actually be on.
Because, you know, members of national legislatures absolutely never say extremely stupid things that don't become national policy.View attachment 3277330
I see Russia has decided to throw an autistic temper tantrum and just might flip the table while shitting it’s pants
Finland joined NATO despite numerous warnings and Poland escalated its rhethoric yesterday, so I do not know what you are expecting. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.View attachment 3277330

They liberated them from Naziism but brought with them the red menace. Two steps forward, one step back. That is cringe, but not quite as cringe as calling what the Red Army did in the Baltics 'liberation'.
