I have seen the cremains of a 3 lb boy later along and they would definitely fit in a sandwich bag. You only get a few percent of the weight of a person as ash and preterm babies have even less bone than an adult.

This is probably TMI and weird but I had a rat cremated that was horrifyingly enough around the same weight as mermaid baby, when I got the ashes back, the twisted shut bag fit in the palm of my hand.

The volume of ashes is confusing to me.
