I am so genuinely confused by his logic here. Is the idea that kids should just have run of the school like some kind of Lord of the Flies scenario? What does he expect the teachers to do? Just shrug and let a good chunk of their charges do whatever they want?

The kids are just able to sit around and do whatever they want, so most of the time they just play on their phones all day and do nothing in particular. This specific place isn't registered as a "school" more so I think it's classified as some sort of 'alternative learning center of some sort' and the kids have to write a GED after they're finished because they don't get actual diplomas. Also It should be noted a lot of the kids in this place are severely behind and have trouble doing basic math.

I'm just imagining Kevin wants his hypothetical child to go to one of these places.

This is why Kevin can't win. It's so against human nature to see people who look and sound like men be called women's names. He's fighting one hell of an uphill battle but from the deepest corner of the internet away from people who could ever disagree with him. You can't change minds if you go out in public once every month.

Yes.

Kevin had a hard time in school. He wasn't allowed to do things he wanted, which he interprets as learning at his own pace or the education system meeting him halfway in his mind but as the phonecalls to home in middle school show, it's him not wanting challenge or change in an incredibly stubborn display. He sees school as a prison. He doesn't want to be challenged, he doesn't want to be forced to do things he doesn't like or pay attention to them, and he doesn't want to interact with others he doesn't care about. School is all those things.

School can be shitty, from bad teachers to other students being a dick to you. It sucks if you got a learning challenge and your school doesn't have the resources to help you with it or doesn't notice. He's not that, he's actively resisting and entitled to everything. Something tells me it's not because the teachers weren't trying to understand his learning style or trying to meet him halfway, but because he literally did not want any of that. There's nothing that could change his mind, except if the lessons were given by transformers, and even then he'd claim the math season was the most boring and bad of all of them.
