The bill was killed because the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission teamed up with Planned Parenthood and lobbied against it.

This absolute cuck of an organization, the ERLC, will be defunded soon if the Southern Baptist Convention accomplishes its planned cleanse when a new president is elected. The ERLC is an arm of the SBC and was formed to advocate for religious liberty and human rights in the public square, but it has been run with an increasingly worldly lens instead of championing consistent biblical ethics. The reason for their opposition is that the law considers anyone who obtains an abortion culpable of the crime, not just the doctors who perform them. The ERLC wants to see women as pure victims of the abortion industry, and while I certainly think Planned Parenthood is exploitative, I don't think it serves anyone to see women as incapable of seeing the human cost of abortion. Yes, they've been propagandized to see it as a harmless medical intervention, but there's a lot of sick shit governments and organizations push that require willing customers to sign on. And while you cannot legislate morality, a principle role of government is to preserve innocent life and establish justice to the best of its ability. You can advocate against abortion from a secular lens, and you can, as a Christian, push for anti-abortion laws without apologizing for "imposing" your beliefs on anyone. You are simply asking the government to fulfill its role consistently.

tl;dr There are elite Christian leaders who are trying to soft-pedal the likely end of Roe and would rather forge a compromise in the hopes that libs will like them instead of being consistent with their stated pro-life positions. They want to say they are arguing tactics, but throwing their weight in with abortionists is inexcusable when they could have let the bill fail or succeed on its own merits. Hopefully they will be defunded.

There were 70 prolife organizations who signed on to that letter, not just the ELRC. That said, the alphabet soup of Christian orgs--SBC, ERLC, TGC, PSUSA, etc.--are all dragging Christianity into the liberal swamp almost as fast as Biden is tanking the country. Liberalism has run amuck in seminaries and rivals academia for who's permanently ruined the next two or three generations.

If Ascol doesn't win the SBC presidency, the convention is forever lost. There will be a conservative exodus, but I expect far more people will remain and slide into complete apostasy.

Isn't there a growing local-based Trad-Cath/Trad-Protestant movement going on right now? Mostly from those who decided that their megachurches are getting too liberal even for their tastes. From what I understand, these are usually not affiliated with the major denominations.
