Advertising is currently one of the most profitable industries on the face of this planet. It accounts for a truly insane amount of money being spent every single year, and it is almost certainly founded on nothing. Its become deeply entagled with the tech industry as well ever since Google led the charge of harvesting user data for advertising purposes. The entire layout, architecture and economy of the modern internet is founded on the assumptions that Big Data makes. If that technology turns out to be useless, or even just less useful than corporations think it is, the entire industry could detonate pretty much over night. A lot of the tech sector services that useless software, and what's more important is a lot of websites fund themselves on ad revenue from programs that use that software and assume it works. This isn't even getting into ad-blocking either, or any of the myriad of other reasons why web advertisements probably don't sell a single product at all.

This is what I was talking about. Right now, a software developer who works on code to process ad click data on Facebook makes about three times as much money as an aerospace engineer working on the next generation of jet propulsion at Pratt & Whitney. But not only that, he also makes three times as much money as the software engineer at Pratt who's working on the code for the combustion chamber control module on that engine.

People want to know why mission-critical software is getting outsourced to India? Because the guy working on the combustion control code just got recruited by Netflix to work on the Roku version of their app for $250K/yr. Pratt could only offer him $95K/yr, because after all, if you pay the combustion controller coder $250K, that aero guy with the Master's and 15 years of experience is going to get pretty pissed off that he only gets half that. And if Pratt doubles engineering salaries across the board, well, CPAs and JDs are going to want pay increases, too. And now the price of jet engines doubled. Then of course just extend that logic across all industries, everywhere, because everyone needs engineers.

Your take is retarded and you should delete your account. To compare Chinese engineers with Japanese ones makes it obvious you have never worked with either.
I just fucking said they dont have the same work ethic you illiterate fucking nigger

Gasoline is rapidly approaching half my discretionary budget. Half. Thats the money I could have been spending at a restaurant. Buying new clothes. Maybe a Vidya Gayme. Instead it's literally going into my tank and set on fire.

I can't imagine this is a unique circumstance.

Just as an example. Last year I spent maybe 40 dollars a week on gasoline. Now I am spending close to 100 dollars a week. That is 60 extra dollars, times 4, which is 240 dollars extra. I've definitely had to cut back in many areas. Restaurants and Coffee shops for the most part. Now I bring a bag lunch to work, and I wolf down two cups of coffee before heading out the door.

My little snowflake on the mountain. Combined with everyone else's, turning into an avalanche.
and that all trickles down, all that money now being spent on gas instead of restaurants along with increased food prices leads to them cutting back and stores closing down. Not to get into the weeds on this, but this is looking to be worse than 2008. and there's a reason there were hardly any chains people remember from the 20s, the great depression destroyed most of them.
Let's remember Amazon of all companies wasn't profitable until the end of the 2010s. All sorts of big names like Uber still aren't profitable. Twitter is a money pit Elon Musk just burned 40 billion dollars in. Shit is going to go insane.
Amazon chose to not be profitable, its complicated but being profitable is like being married with children, your options become much more limited and if you suddenly stop being increasingly profitable you get raped hard a la Netflix. Amazon choosing to operate at a loss to ensure it got as much of the marketshare of online shoppers as possible and that its infrastructure wouldn't break shows how careful Jeff was when starting the company. His timid mindset is what led to it being considered the safest option of all the tech stocks even during the height of the boom.
The really fun part is that those useless "administration and PR" roles tend to be 99% women, troons, and illiterate fat black women.

We're about to see lots of reeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.
you didn't pay attention to socialist studies did you? as anyone that watched survivor knows, you take out the guy actually doing good because even if he's the only one ensuring the survival of the team he could eat you alive.

Records show from the 1970s onwards, the smart white guy with all the answers is first to be let go and those queers, women, and coloreds stay until the very end. Its out of the companies hands too, second they do otherwise a lawsuit gets filed and the company is even more fucked.
On the plus side, H1Bs, Indian and Chinese tech workers are the first out the fucking door. Having a team dedicated to fixing the fuckups that the streetshitter and chinaman outsourcers make is no longer going to make economic sense. (There will be a short period where they try to maximize this relationship before it collapses, however.)
Except those asians have friends who know that the second they vanish they call up X and suddenly the US government investigates the "racist" company, then their friends in the media go after the same company and their reputation fucks the company worse. At least when you fire whites they go "aw shucks" and vanish.
That is there and yet the value of my house just keeps going up and the house down the street from me went under contract in 36 hours. WTF?
thats because if you look at the data in the right way land in general is extremely undervalued, if housing goes up even 3% a year when we have double digit inflation you're still coming out ahead despite that being a loss. Thats at least what analysis from the last decade has shown, the big problem of the 2000s crisis is that you brought bundles where you got some sub prime loans that would burn your whole investment, no need to buy bundles when you can literally make your own. of course its just people completely not expecting to be sold rotten mortgages that fucked everyone back then. but investing in land is always a safe investment like gold because you can't make more of it. Its even safer when markets go to shit, honestly blackrock and vanguard just went full doomer and have been buying up everything in sight because if the market does crack they come out way further ahead. buying a house for $500/sqft in a ghetto seems absurd now, but come 2040 the price of everything will be 10x what it is now. so buying any house for $500k won't seem like such a bad investment when the median income will be about $900k come 2040.

To put it in perspective, if in 2004 you could buy a house for $80k would you? any person in high finance would be fired to let such an investment slip out of their hands

As for the gullibility of humans and their lemmings lifestyle, think about it like this, the best form of warfare in ancient times was the phalanx, its what led to the roman empire and the rise of the greek empire. evolution over centuries have conformed humans into being better at the type of thinking needed for such a unit to thrive. for every 100 people in the phalanx there was one officer to tell them what to do. And thats why most people just shut the fuck up and don't question what they're told, unless its something they learned their entire life. "oh this isn't a big deal;it will recover" is the usual response because doing any real thinking is what led to units breaking and then routs and then battles lost.

there's a reason soldiers are effectively brainwashed before being put on the front lines and taught to act like a unit. you start thinking for yourself suddenly the whole apple cart is destroyed. the idea of a citizen soldier while a cute ideal, don't matter much in the big scheme of things. it doesn't matter how far you run the machine will reach you. just ask our friends in what used to be lily white Minnesota or wisconsin or iowa. Any ability to fight back will fail because the stupid people who do as they're told will always outweight the ones warning of a big suck coming to take away people's livelihoods.

There's also a big difference between "we're not profitable because our costs are higher than our revenue and we're just hoping to figure out how to fix that some day," and "we're not profitable because we reinvest literally everything and then some into growing the company, but if we just stayed the size we are, we'd be returning a healthy amount to investors."

Records show from the 1970s onwards, the smart white guy with all the answers is first to be let go and those queers, women, and coloreds stay until the very end. Its out of the companies hands too, second they do otherwise a lawsuit gets filed and the company is even more fucked.

Guy I know had to fire a negress. She came into work late, left early, took 2-hour lunches, lied on reports, didn't finish projects, etc. She sued the company anyway. She only lost because the guy kept meticulous records documenting every single infraction. This was 20 years ago; it's worse now. Documenting a black employee's infractions now can itself be seen as a form of discrimination if you aren't doing it equally meticulously for every white employee.

People in Minnesota welcomed the Somalis. I think this is less about conformism than America having a sort of religious fetish with minorities and civil rights. We revere the 1960s the way Protestants used to revere the 1520s.

In case you were wondering why markets are up today.

Everyone should know they have simply backed themselves into a corner they cannot crawl out of without horrible consequences. I have no idea why the market even reacts to it anymore besides no one has fixed the bot algos yet.

Meanwhile though, mortgage prices are skyrocketing, diesel is about to be rationed, the southwest is drying up fast. EVERYTHING IS FINE.

Sure, there's a public health crisis, stacked on top of a supply chain crisis, stacked on top of an energy crisis, stacked on top of a military crisis, but did you see that the Fed is going to take away our free money less quickly than nobody expected them to? BUY BUY BUY.

Seeing reports that Ukraine have allegedly cut off russian gas flows to europe lmao

I wonder if this was sanctioned by the EU or if the Ukrainians got so high on their own propaganda that they think they can blackmail Europe. If it's the latter wonder how the euros will react.

Things are going from bad to worse, I'm going to keep slowly buying non perishable foods. Stay safe and be prepared frens.

E: partial shut off apparently of a pipeline responsible for 1/3 of the flow to europe
slavniggers up to their old tricks again I see:

as for the blackmail, since the whole thing started ukraine has constantly been trying to get the rest of nato involved (just remember the whole "poland is giving us planes!" and other bs). but since europe is europe and it's big bad putin against poor little ukraine they can't really back out now and tell him to cut that shit out.

How will zoomers even be able to handle a 1930's style depression? Will they just an hero?
Yep. We saw a sneak peek of that with the recent TerraLuna shitcoin fiasco. For some reason these mongoloids had emptied their entire life's savings into a "stable coin pair" that also somehow promises 20% y/y returns (so yes, we're talking about that level of financial retardation). When the obvious Madoff scheme imploded in on itself, these fuckers were left with nothing. And since they're a product of the "bad times make weak men" gestalt we all live in, they all immediately started necking themselves.

If (when?) we get to full-on depression levels, shit's going to get dark.

"There's a lot of uncertainty around this situation," Mr Bailey said.

"And that is a major, major worry and it's not just I have to tell you a major worry for this country. There's a major worry for the developing world as well. And so if I had to sort of, sorry for being apocalyptic for a moment, but that is a major concern."

Mr Bailey warned that price rises in food and energy would have a much bigger effect than any rise in interest rates.

My economy for an advert.
Could you imagine? The collapse of modern society because everyone brought so much into advertising and the feedback loop.
"The new Ford F-150 2050, 200% less likely to explode and catch fire on start!"

As someone else my age said, the greatest minds of my generation have been harnessed to find better ways to get people to click on ads.
