Cartoon Industry thread - Showcasing the Spergery of the Animation Industry

I honestly have to say that Craig of the Creek is definitely the Wokest cartoon out there, mainly because of the constant need to force Representation down our throats in every episode

Hell... in the Creek Kid Maker on CN's website, they even have an option for your character to wear a Hijab.... i'm not even making this up...

That is just ridiculous...
Who watches this show? No really, who? This looks so boring and sanitized, not to mention all these non-binary and gay characters who are all (persumably) little kids is creepy. It's like a worse version of Kids Next Door.

It’s interesting how this show keeps going, out of some of the newer CN shows in recent years. It’s won several awards. I wonder if that’s why they keep it on the air? Does it do well in the ratings? Is TTG (a show produced by WB animation) really the only series keeping CN afloat?

It's getting season 5, a spinoff series for preschoolers, and a movie. I don't like to dive into conspiracies, so I assume it's doing well enough in its time slot and demographics to sell those sweet, sweet advertising spots and justify keeping it going. Otherwise, someone's bank rolling that.

Animation World Network article/press release

All the reviews I see are neutral to negative, so I do kind of wonder about what's going on. It looks like the show it in hour and a half blocks, twice a day on week days.... The hell?

CN is owned by Warner Bros.-Discovery. So WB Animation isn't really separated from CN by that many degrees.

It gets worse when you see what the Crew Members draw in their spare time.

I honestly have a bad feeling about Jessica's Big Little World, because it could essentially end up being an extended version of those Steven Universe Anti-Racism PSA's

There's....a polyamorous flag on that truck. You can find ways to excuse the regular pride but that one isn't even a sexuality it's just fucking multiple people.

I’ve only heard of Craig of The Creek once while trying to see whether or not Regular Show and old episodes of Chowder would be on. Looking at the recent pictures on this thread make me question what little kids wearing hijabs and focusing on “representation” what this has to do with nature and surviving on a creek where there are actual fish, beavers and other woodland creatures confused as to why these kids are hanging out at a creek in the first place.

Much like Steven Universe, CN really lost themselves pre-early 2015.

That's about the time I stopped watching since my parents got rid of our cable at that time. At the time I was bummed out, looking back, they did me a favor. This is in spite of the fact streaming is a more viable option nowadays. Thank the almighty that the cord got cut just in time.

I remember when I saw the episode of Clarence "Neighborhood Grill" I was in utter disbelief when there were two gay men kissing in the bar. People around my age are in that gray area, most of the shows we watched as kids were FairlyOddParents, Chowder, and Kids Next Door, which were the last cartoons to come out during a time were nonsense like that wasn't allowed in kids shows, but at the same time, we were still young enough to see the earliest of the propaganda that they were spewing out. Clarence being an early but tame example, and it was also the last show I watched before I aged out of the target audience.

Obviously I'm not homophobic, but sexuality should be something that should be discussed in an orderly fashion with trustworthy adults and it shouldn't be sprinkled into children's media unsupervised.

One could argue SpongeBob pioneered this too, because he became progressively less masculine as time went on.

It's weird how these shows keep airing despite the relatively low ratings. Nickalodeon also has its cash cow, but at least SpongeBob is still popular, even if people may not like the newer seasons. It is rather strange that Cartoon Network is just TTG, Dramarama, and Craig of the Creek now, and yet it still manages to keep itself afloat. I guess they air reruns of their more popular shows from time to time, but is that enough?

If I'm not mistaken, the spinoff will have the addition of the little girl having imaginary friends (maybe it's that onion creature on the bottom left), which will hopefully give it that extra little push to make it more interesting and engaging. But I don't have my hopes up, we won't know for sure until we get a teaser trailer, which won't be until 2023.

I looked for ratings but couldn't find them. Admittedly, I didn't look too hard or spend a lot of time. Going off the movie and spin off, I have to assume its viewership is above average for its slot/demographics and they have no shortage of companies buying advertising even with hour and a half blocks running twice a day. Just because it's not a break out hit doesn't mean it's not successful =/

This is stuff going back like 20-25 years, but there used to be a genuine question at CN if they should even bother producing original content or airing dubbed anime. They were owned by Turner at the time, had the entire Hanna-Barbera library and leased the WB Looney Tunes shorts from the 40's-70's that Nickelodeon used to lease. Scooby-doo was their highest rated show. What's profitable for CN is likely a way lower bar than even the WB network. There was also a kind of 'We don't want to be commercial and air shows that are effectively toy adverts' thing, which may still be a driving ideal there.

ETA: not wanting to air 'commercial' shows was their response to if they would air dubbed Sailor Moon or 80's shows like He-Man and Transformers specifically. This was fucking forever ago, and I'm surprised I even still remember this shit.

Figured i'd repost this from the Antifa thread since we're on the topic of people who work for CN
So this former Post Production assistant for Cartoon Network is apparently trying to help raise funds for Antifa members who were arrested in Los Angeles

Her name is Therisse Amunatigui, she's a Non-Binary musician, and according to IMDB, she worked on nearly every CN show from 2017-2021

It's pretty fucking scary how people like this manage to worm their way into children's entertainment, and i felt it was appropriate to expose her here.....

Here's some of the Social Media accounts she posts on for anyone morbidly curious

BTW, that tweet was also retweeted by Spencer Rothbell, who's another person who works for CN, and has shown support for numerous Communist groups

I have a feeling the numbers might not be as inflated as one might think, but I don't think people are actually watching. This thread made me think about it, but consider this: a lot of people will have their TVs on practically 24/7 for like white-noise or what-not. When I was last at a friend's place to spend the night, she had a TV on in the game room to Boomerang, but none of us were really watching it (it's like stuffed to the brim with Tom & Jerry of various series, it's a ghost town), and it was the same in the front room once it was getting late. Old people probably have it on Nickelodeon or Cartoon Network if they're not glued to the TV because they may have their grandkids over, but I bet a lot of those kids are on their phones instead of looking at the TV screen. And places that have a lot of families like pizza parlors and airports will have the TVs on various channels, and Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon are any of the two "kids' channels" that'd be on.

So the ratings might not be wrong, technically, I just sincerely doubt you'll find a kid who actually has watched any of these shows and can tell you what they're about or if they even like them.

This makes way, way more sense than the show actually having a strong viewership but there's not a lot of 'fan' reaction because their target audience isn't really producing social media buzz. We're talking about 6-10 year olds for Y7 shows, mind you.

It's also depressing to think there's a production crew working their hearts out to bring.. this to kids and impart their message to them, and everything looks successful on the surface. So much so it keeps getting renewed. A movie. A spin off. They're reaching them!

But no one's watching.

Finn’s crush on Princess Bubblegum always gave me incest like vibes.
Personally, I thought there was nothing wrong with it. A boy having a crush on a woman isn't that uncommon. But I think the show screwed up a lot with Finn, espeically with him not finding a girlfriend by the end of the series despite having numerous love interests throughout the series. Feels like the writers really didn't want to give him a happy ending.
