General Discussion for Virtual Youtubers / Vtubers / Chuubas - it's okay to be a simp for 2D, just don't thirstpost.

I heard of Kizuna Ai around when she debuted. Thought, "cool tech" and that was about it. Saw Miko GTA clips in 2020, thought "that's funny" and that was about it. Knew about Vtuber scene growing a bit during that year, but mostly was not interested. Thought it was just idols with extra steps and they would be all super boring and cookie cutter.

Then mid 2021, was hate-watching clips of of an streaming community because I had nothing better to do and that scene is all drama. People were playfully making fun of a pretty drama-free, wholesome streamer, who I don't even watch, for being exposed as a Gura fan. This kept happening over 2 or 3 weeks, then clips of Gura started coming up. Finally I thought, wait maybe Vtubers are just streamers.... but anime. And then I started watching Miko, Korone, Subaru, and the rest of JPs clips and then transitioned to EN once I ran out of that and that was that.

Then started lurking here around Council debut. Until I finally caved and joined.

@Tatsunoko I think most people here know about Yugo, but are respectable enough to still call him with male pronouns. Mostly cuz he doesn't seem like a lunatic, especially next to people like Mysta.

I was subscribed to Kizuna Ai and Kaguya Luna after their popularity spike, but I never looked further into the "scene" at the time. I enjoyed watching them for a time, but after the novelty wore off, their content started to feel more hit or miss and I eventually tapered off. (My knowledge of Japanese is rudimentary, so I can only take so much context-less anime noises before I get bored and subtitles weren't always available.)

As time went on, some Hololive clips would hit my feed, but it was basically the same story. Plenty of cute Japanese girls doing cute things, but I'm too much of a gaijin to care. It wasn't until I was exposed to Pikamee's Japanglish from the LET'S KILL DA HO clip that I realized that vtubers are a lot more enjoyable to me when I can understand at least a portion of the conversation. So, when HoloMyth debuted, I was a lot more eager to keep up with them and actually tune into streams instead of hanging out on the periphery. Finding this thread also helped a lot to retain my interest because it keeps me in the loop and the discussions here aren't totally gay and lame.

The priestess is trying out the new YT features. Bunch of people gifting subs in pre chat. Raids are enabled as well. She had no idea the features went live because why would Susan communicate with the creators?

It wasnt communicated to her, and she personally wanted the gift subs to be disabled, but she doesnt know how to do it.

She sounded visibly nervous, as in as she disliked the feature, thats understandable since members streams were a safe space for her to being personal to the takodachis, now giving subs to randos that safe space its over. This really sucks and i feel Ina on this one.

I knew of her before, so I don't watch her struggle at being a cartoon "EN" dude-tuber who can't speak English. That's at least one too many layers to work through. I know I'd find it sad.

Brings into the question are various vtubers going to introduce a really low tier membership for these gift memberships just for the emotes and not the member streams and what not. On paper the membership gifting is a nice gesture, but this is the internet and nothing ever goes how you want it to.

Tbf Vox in those pictures looks like he has not even concluded his adventure with puberty. Once he gets rid of the babyfat on the cheeks and cuts the disgusting disney/british hair he might evolve into a actually good looking man
