''Need a hand ? me lady''

I've noticed thorhighheels doing whatever the hell this thing is recently. I knew he was already a weird guy but did something happen?
Nothing specific. He started injecting more and more lefty politics into his videos and leaning too heavily on the same catch phrases. I brought him up in the "creative works you enjoyed until politics happened" thread and it seems I'm not alone in noticing the shift.

I can't imagine what they'll do when and if the money dries up except pull a Lowtax.
The Something Awful guy? What did he do?

Guess bank switching wasnt possible?
It was indeed possible, though smaller banks compared to the NES (8 kB banks compared to 16 kB banks), and thus the maximum ROM size with some discrete logic mapper using an 8 bit latch and some AND or OR gates being 2 MiB instead of 4 MiB.
But home computer platform publishers and devs, with the exception of Rainbow arts, Factor 5, Psygnosis and few others, were some stingy fuckers, like some stereotypical Jew. They cut corners wherever possible, often churning out unlicensed bootleg quality trash, with bootleg devs rather often doing a better job. Why bother making a CPC and Amiga port taking advantage of these computers' hardware, when you can just quickly churn out a ZX Spectrum and Atari ST conversion? Just make it look good in screenshots! Even some console ports of home computer games had stinginess in them, such as Super Turrican cutting content because the publishers were too stingy for a 6 Mbit cart, so they only had 4 Mbits, or Another World on SNES using SlowROM.

TL;DR the publishers were too stingy to even put proper resources in the development of the games themselves, let alone investing in bigger ROM and a mapper, and just wanted to rush the crap out of the game. See? Unfinished broken messes of a game aren't a new thing at all! They have always existed on western home computer platforms!

🎊🎊🎊JIM HAS OFFICIALLY LOST 100,000 SUBSCRIBERS 🎊🎊🎊
Im shocked, thats all?! Hes lucky he has any left given how his videos are stretched-he manages to make 2 minutes stories into 15 minute videos, they are pretty repetative and painfully unfunny (which then became obvious why when I learned it was laura kate dale who made the videos).

I think it's the fate of about 90% of big YouTubers. Very very few have what it takes to evolve and adapt their content while retaining a large audience (only two I can think of are Critikal and Pewdiepie) and even if you can stay niche and what you do is well received how long can you really expect people to keep watching? Are people still gonna be turning up in 2040 to watch a 50-year-old Projared talk about SNES games or watch or a horrifically aged Contrapoints musing on whatever the fuck he talks about.

I feel sorry for the creators who are clearly burnt out on doing the same content but get pushback whenever they experiment --not in Jim's case though, because it's his own fault he's boxed himself in-- but at the same time I find it pretty fascinating because I can't think of an old media profession that's analogous; even something like career news anchors move to different networks, can do field or studio reporting, and talk about a wide variety of stories.

The only equivalent I can think of is a band who tries to tour new material but people only ever want to hear the one hit they had 20 years ago, but even then most of those bands just break up and get other jobs.
This post reminds me of another British Youtuber focused on video games that's been around a while: Caddicarus. Cadicarus has been making his style of content for 10 years where he makes a video that has him riffing and reviewing a game. These games tend to have something to do with the PS1 era because he grew up with the PS1 and he really likes it The thing is he hasn't been making the exact same video for those 10 years like Jim has been. Caddy's editing and joke delivery has gotten better. He's has gone further in depth in what he says on a game over time. He's used to have different types of videos on his channel like Caddy's Retrospectives and some movie reviews he did with his step-kids, but decided to get rid of them because he felt they bloated the channel and took away from his main content. He's also branched out from just the PS1 and talked about other games and systems. Caddy's never been afraid to mix it up with his style. In the past two years or so, he's also gone from talking about just one game per video to touching upon multiple games that fit into the video's theme. These recent long-form videos on multiple games are some of the best he's ever made. That's not something you usually say about someone who's been making their main style of content for that long. Caddy's channel has kept growing because his style has remained recognizable, but he's never stagnated. It also helps that his videos are just fun. The passion he has for his videos are laden througout his videos and they feel as fun to watch as they probably were to make. He just made a community post about how his most recent video on PS1 accessories was coincidentally uploaded on the 10th anniversary of him making his main series of videos and thanking people who have stuck around since his early stuff. He just comes across as a fun and sincere guy who really likes what he does and isn't afraid to change things up when he wants to.
TL;DR It's possible to remain relevant after a long period of content creation. You just need to mix it up sometimes and put passion into what you're doing. Jim's too bitter and fat to try something different and have fun whilst he's doing it.

That band analogy is a great comparison but it the case of Jim he has so irreparably damaged his brand and identity there is not coming back. Thinking about old YouTube also makes me think about game grumps but I don't really know what happened to them.

Jim is definitely gonna spin him losing subscribers as "they hate me because I'm trans" instead of just accepting his videos are absolutely fucking shit. If you want to get your news on gaming and the industry, there are plenty of channels that are far less annoying, far more factual, go into far more detail and give a wider scope rather than Jim's comparatively narrow coverage.

Jim can't reasonably put a massive exodus from his channel solely down to trans issues because let's be honest, most of the people who just hate him for being trans weren't subbed to begin with, or would have unsubbed way longer ago.

Frankly Jim could take things to the extreme and literally have his character be even more played up by the trans angle, even rebranding to "the transgamer time" or something. And while there would be some subscriber loss, if he made good content, it wouldn't be nearly as notable.

I'm going to make a bold claim that where you are in England (or anywhere) does not factor into who you become nearly as much as the people you surround yourself with and the situation(s) you grow up facing. Jimbo became who he is because of his parents (or lack thereof), friends (with some degree of sarcasm these days), and using Twitter to replace having neighbors.

It's amazing how I met this old guy who went deaf after serving overseas and was incredibly happy and married, yet Jim who makes ten times what he had and (claims to) have multiple partners instead of one is one of the most miserable people I've ever seen.

Can't wait for jershs coverage on the 800k celebration

There probably won't be one, the first below 900k special was him being ironic after losing 23k (transphobe) subscribers

After losing over 120k subs he would have to admit its not transphobes but his stale content hosted by a fat Troon

Then again it's Jim so he still my try to frame losing so many as a victory just like is last one, being unsubscribed on mass promotes his gay victim mentality

And it's one of many reasons why people think he transitioned for attention. He was a leftist and surrounded by leftists for a long time. If he was genuinely trans he would have done it a long time ago because he was already around accepting people. Similar situation to Ellen Page.
