Why is it everytime an individual starts to become more openly "based" or not woke we immediately get bombarded with "ZOMG they're literally a snake in the grass they're grifting!!!11!!" I understand skepticism but using this every single time (for example) DeSantis proposes an anti-trans kids bill or Tucker starts talking about the World Economic Forum on national television is the exact same demoralization tactic as "every right wing protest glows."

I'd be lying if I said that 1950's America doesn't pop into my head when I think "common American identity," but yeah, that seems to be long gone.
It's just pop culture though, usually based on a fictionalized portrayal of America as seen by some liberal Hollywood cokeheads. I grew up on those movies in the 80s and 90s, but outside of some swear words and references, not much about American identity comes across.The generic American identity is so ingrained in the whole world that slopes in Thailand will ask for their "one phone call" when they get arrested.

I don't know about that. It's arguably been a thing since at least the American and French Revolutions, and you can argue that the Roman Republics emphasis on adopting Roman values and commitment to Republican ideals are fairly equivalent to our modern conceptions of civic nationalism

That's because CA politics are dominated by the Bay Area, which means upper-class whites and their dark-skinned pets. Now, that San Fran machine is run by one Nancy Pelosi, and I don't think there's a replacement waiting in the wings. Newsom is going to get termed out, and without his aunt-by-marriage's patronage he won't be going somewhere where he can keep that power, and Maxine Waters is going to start insisting its her turn to take the lead. Meanwhile the Hispanic machine that's in LA and extends through OC down to San Diego and has been actively sidelined so the Bay Area can maintain power is going to start agitating and making their moves once they see an opening.
You know what, that makes perfect sense as to why Elon would buy out Twitter.

Because well in general they answer to no one but in particular.
They don't have to answer to wine moms and soccer moms and eggless middle aged hags hitting the wall and bleeding hearts for "mean tweets" since they already got the next election rigged anyway for a win or just don't have any issues putting them in the ground if they get questioned by anyone generally and don't like taking shit from anyone. Since that is their nature unlike America where politicians in general answer to the voters and have to somewhat to some extent care about their retarded "fee fees" like Obama wearing that damn tan suit or Trump liking good pussy.

I had to sit through a Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity meeting last week. It was about as fun as you'd expect. The DIE presenter referred to Joe Biden as "our national leader." Both the amateur philologist and the poli sci major within me wanted to scream.
Constitutionally, there's no such thing as a "national leader." There's a President, who has defined powers over the Executive Branch of the Federal Government, but he has no power to "lead" the nation. He can exhort, harangue, and babble all he wants, but he leads private citizens not at all.

Our nation's history goes back much further than 1000 years. Our history didn't begin in 1776. We came from the 13 colonies. Who were they the colonies of? What language do we speak? What legal system predominates? What religion is the most popular?
