Trump immediately came out with a strong anti–illegal immigration and anti-Obamacare platform. He very quickly established his intention to restrict global trade with tariffs which is a reactionary position. It went far beyond the ‘conservative’ fiscal policy that was popular in the Republican party at the time.

Obama ran on the opposite: single payer healthcare, pro-immigration, and green energy. I don’t know what planet any of that sounds more conservative than Trump 2016. ‘Muh gay marriage’ fuck off. Obama married a literal tranny. We all knew he was lying his teeth off when he came out against gay marriage.

I dunno man I think taking the campaign PR at face value as if they actually represent the dudes is pretty dumb too.

Obama was all smiles while enacting corporatist police state shit, some of which he explicitly ran on being against. All Trump did for the first few months was undo Obama shit that already existed by pretending they were his idea, making them bad now, and then never actually tried to do any of the wacky shit he'd said. You aren't powerful enough for the two-dimensional chess.
 
All Trump wanted to do, and did, was enrich himself and his buddies, and get revenge on people he didn’t like (including, you know, America and it’s federal government).
All else was chum thrown in the water, or bones thrown to the most psychotic republicans.
