For a group of lads that claim to dislike some fat faggot that will never have enough money and will always scam poor stupid blokes, we sure seem keen on helping him find more ways to do just that.
Slightly late to the party, but I disagree with most of these. If we want to get into semantics, yeah, these are things that were discussed on the forums, but only in the sense that they're (mostly) all obvious things that streamers figure out within the first few weeks.
Minimum tips are generally a standard thing. I think Phil actually has his on the lower end, I remember $5 being the standard. IIRC, it had something to do with PayPal fees being worse for anything under $5, but that might have changed.
Vest/hat is arguably more of a detractor idea. I'm not 100% on the lore, but I always thought it was people trying to get Phil to dress up and look dumb. Some of them probably did donate, and I'd say those guys are as dumb as the usual bunch that troll tip, but the actual streak/money making was way more OIC related than detractor. It's easily his claim to "fame" and what most people know him for.
Pretty sure naming Pokemon was a joke after Phil started charging people to name stuff in Minecraft. Variants of it are also pretty common among streamers, except instead of bid wars, it's rewarding subs by naming characters after them.
Rebranding is way too generic of a thing to be called a detractor idea. I feel like we also talk more about how rebranding is impossible for Phil because he's known as "that guy". Outside of dropping King of Hate, a term DSP barely even used in years, I don't think Phil has even tried to rebrand himself. Mostly because I don't think he has a brand to begin with outside of being "that guy".
Reacting to videos is again not something limited to detractors. I think this is just a classic example of Phil being incredibly late to hop onto a trend. Plus, Phil has for years dipped his gout infested toes into being a react streamer. I mean, he even had a react channel made, plus he's done reactions to E3 coverage and his retrospective streams. Even DSP tries it was basically a react video, and he certainly didn't get that idea from detractors. If anything, I think the general reaction from detractors kept him from doing more stuff like this, especially the Tries It because he's terrified of showing off his house now.
I thought most people agreed DTRH was too outdated/vanilla to be an entertaining reacts. It seems like he had watched at least some other DTRH, though I guess that's possibly because the channel was being talked about on here? I suppose there's an argument that us saying it was boring and safe is what made DSP watch it so in a sense, this could probably be loosely attributed to detractors.
Maybe jokes were made about Phil eating on camera, but I think the general consensus is Feasting with the King is *not* a good idea and Phil not only sucks at describing food/looks miserable doing it. It also tends to be the part where people stop watching because it's so boring/gross. Again, there might have been jokes about Phil charging people to watch him eat, but I don't think anyone though it was actually a good idea. I also don't know if I'd even call it a successful idea, it seems like whenever he sets it as a goal, it's more of an incidental thing versus something people actively donated for like the vest streak.
There's also plenty of examples of Phil not taking legitimately good ideas that are posted on here. Greenscreen, fan discord, playing multiplayer games with fans, not making celebrity deaths about himself, collaborating with other streamers, multiplayer with Khet, less begging etc. There are even "jokey" suggestions Phil could theoretically do but hasn't shown an interest in, like charging to turn the camera on (or off). Then there's some "bigger" ones that admittedly, Phil just isn't capable of, like anything related to saving money/not playing Champions etc. Actually, Champions is a pretty big suggestion he's ignored on here. Not in the quitting sense, but streaming himself playing it/trying to use his gacha addiction to pity beg. He's also ignored the suggestion of cutting down on prestreams, in fact, he went so far as to do the opposite and turn it into an even longer "podcast".
Don't get me wrong, there are some legitimate "detractors" who are in the closet Phil fans. Or people who really, really don't understand trolling. And apparently, some who think Phil deserves protected status. But I'm fairly confident those stealth fans are very much in the minority, and I don't think these recent theories that detractors are actually responsible for all of DSP's success hold much weight.
