Nexpo/YT Horror Channels - Do they all suck

Throwing in my list of some channels I watch: The Histocrat, The History Guy, TREY the Explainer, The Legends of History, Ryan Hollinger, Mythology and Fiction Explained…there’s a few more but I figure this is enough for now. I’d also give The Exploring Series a listen to for his non-SCP stuff. Most I listed aren’t horror but history based and I’ve been getting archeological recommendations lately and I’m shocked I’m enjoying them as much as I am.

Have you seen any of Thought Potatoes videos. This is one of my favorites. I really like his delivery.

Parallel pipes just generally appears to not want to commit to his content with the amount of censoring, and his commentary is lukewarm. And he covers a lot of stuff that has already been talked to death.

I've been lurking this thread for a minute because I watch a lot of these YT channels, and I've been quite enjoying all of your posts and conversation.

I remember Plagued Moth coming on my radar when he made his cameo on Wendigoon, looking up his channel, not liking his personality or content, and checking out. I had forgotten all about him until I started reading this thread and hot damn, what a MASSIVE CREEP. I peeped a few of his more recent videos like the Amber Alert one and I am right there with you all, it's obvious that enjoys gore a little too much even if you don't know about his fucked up discord kids club.

I don't have much to add right this moment except... Plagued Moth thread when?

I dont know if MamaMax is apart the horror channel stuff, but why is he so edgy? The faux deepened voice (which he very clearly edits or has a special microphone/vocoder that deepens it as he speaks). All the editing is just very excessive, needless so. The people he talks about are evil people and should get the maximum time they can, but its hard to take a clearly fake edgy persona seriously. It sounds like parody.

I suppose Max is a thespian, and enjoys all those dramatic extras. And it seems as though it keeps a great job of getting his audience to come back for more

That's not the biggest problem I've had with it. The one that all icebergs have in common is the fact that there is 0 progression. It's just a bunch of mediocre stuff been thrown around the picture and I really can't call many entries "rabbit holes", like Notches canceled game - "yeah, Notch had a project, but then Minecraft blew up and now he has more money than a single person should ever had, the end". Stuff like this.

This is why 99% of those videos suck - I remember the first time I saw "iceberg" it was this thing.

And despite being obviously a joke, it kinda works - every level has stuff that arguably belongs there and it gets progressively worse. The iceberg from that video had none of it - the entries didn't differ by their complexity or disturbing factor or whatever, it's just a bunch of stuff thrown on the wall. This is why "researching" it is boring, it's like watching a movie where nothing happens.

Nevermind the fact that this YT fag called KF a harassment website. It takes literally two clicks to see "No trolling plans" banner, but I guess it would've made his video too long. In the end it's just an incredibly boring list read by really incompetent person over some shitty Minecraft mode.

I've never been a fan of tuv and so didn't know any of the story of his trajectory. Now I know why he started appearing all over my youtube feed suddenly last year.

He's not to my taste but he doesn't seem like a bad guy. Sucks to hear that he's had issues with addiction and depression so young.

I actually like Tuv's videos, so I've heard him mention his various issues before. He's like Wendigoon in that he puts actual emotion into his videos and you can tell when a topic amuses or upsets him, so I get why he blew up so quickly. Unfortunately, Tuv is still pretty young. (I think he just turned 21?) He likely wasn't prepared for the sudden rise in popularity.

He seems like a good kid. I hope he gets the help he needs.

Same, I watched a bunch of them the other night and I like his approach, he’s right in the sweet spot. Not too sensational but not too lighthearted, just the facts but not completely detached. His delivery evokes morbid curiosity really well.

Edit: I’d like to add that his videos SATIFY morbid curiosity. You come away not wanting or needing to see the real deal, which IMO should be the aim of content that covers gore/shock.
