The Australian totalitarian megathread - She won't be right mate.

Happy election day lads. Enjoy your democracy sausage and done forget to put iMOP as number one on your ballot paper!

After I donkey vote, I'll enjoy a nice meal, a succulent Chinese meal!
Get your hands off my penis!
Why would you go to all the effort to get there and then just donkey vote. There are a bunch of suitable protest/dissident parties to vote for. For an additional 2 minutes of slight effort, you can send a tiny display of defiance. And the fact they won't win means you don't need to care about them all being retards. You aren't voting for One Nation or Clive or whatever, you're voting to spook the mainstream parties a bit. They see all the numbers, in the most ideal world it might make them tone things down a bit.

And getting First Preference votes gives parties benefits even if they don't win, pretty sure.

First preference votes in Oz give the recipient money back from the AEC IIRC. So a minor party or indy that doesn't win but has a decent showing in a seat doesn't go bankrupt from the attempt.

lol at Australia probably unironically voting to reelect the worst Prime Minister they've ever had. Dumbest country ever.
Fuck you Scotty, did not even number the Liberals on the ballot. Please get the fuck out of the government.

Anyway, seeing a lot of austism on socials like "PRO TIP: Hold something in your hands or put your hands in the pocket so people at the voting centers can't give you paper." just say "No thank you, I would not like any paper." like a regular well adjusted human being, the absolute state of the 18-30 year old demographic.

The Aussies could get lucky and get a minority government. Maybe.
:optimistic::optimistic::optimistic::optimistic:
Anything like that and we'd end up with a hung parliament and we'd have to resit the election. The whole process basically comes to a screaming halt if it's not run on a two party system.

Albo will be a kind master. Don't worry my sweet lil' 'dissidents'. When I'm in charge of your cases at the re-education camps I'll make sure youse all get a daily farmers union instead of barista bros.

When was the last time we had a far left gov in power? Albo is from the far left wing of labor faction if you didn't know, whereas shorten was from the right wing faction.

From my experience when I was there. They're too dumb to even understand how their parliamentary system works.

The conservative party can't form a majority on its own. So needs a coalition with a party that is more far-right and for dumb farmers who vote against their own interests. Dragging the whole coalition to the far right. Yet people just act like it is one party. Don't even realise this.

If the left-wing party can't form a majority and needs to join with minor parties. It's far-leftists holding the government hostage.

I was once with some Aussies complaining about a left-wing Prime Ministers' election lie about there being "no carbon tax under a government they lead." Firstly they didn't understand the policy was a temporary measure to transition to an emissions trading scheme. Couldn't get their heads around that.

Then the next hurdle was trying to explain that it is not really a lie because they didn't win a majority of seats to form a Government on their own. So the Government is now comprised of them with a minor party. So they can't rule and lead how they would have if they won a majority. That was too much and baked their noodle. They couldn't understand what forming a minority Government meant compared to a majority government.

The other Australian election observation is that most of them don't understand how to vote. They think in order to vote for a party, they need to accurately transcribe the right sequence of numbers from a how-to-vote card. They know the 1 is for that party they want to vote for. They think the other numbers are a code to make the vote valid. Never stopping to realise they can choose the order of preference in their vote.

Where when discussing politics, they'll say things like, "But a vote for the Greens is just a vote for Labor." Where they get frustrated when you try to explain that you can order the preferences however you want. "But they did a preference deal." Eventually, you give up trying to explain you can put the numbers in whatever order you want and there's where the preferences go.
